well, El Nino is a weather pattern, yes it is spanish for "the boy", but it is a widely used term for current worldwide conditions. El Nino generally sets up a lot of moisture in the jet streams, resulting in lots of precipitation, snow and rain. This is also the cause of the massive snow storms in the Northeast. El Nino occurs once every ~6 years, the rest of the time the weather system that is dominant is La Nina.
To put it in Wikipedia terms:
Quote:
El Niņo-Southern Oscillation, often called simply ENSO, is a climate pattern that occurs across the tropical Pacific Ocean on average every five years, but over a period which varies from three to seven years, and is therefore, widely and significantly, known as "quasi-periodic." ENSO is best-known for its association with floods, droughts and other weather disturbances in many regions of the world, which vary with each event. Developing countries dependent upon agriculture and fishing, particularly those bordering the Pacific Ocean, are the most affected.
ENSO is composed of an oceanic component, called El Niņo (or La Niņa, depending on its phase), which is characterized by warming or cooling of surface waters in the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, and an atmospheric component, the Southern Oscillation, which is characterized by changes in surface pressure in the tropical western Pacific. The two components are coupled: when the warm oceanic phase (known as El Niņo) is in effect, surface pressures in the western Pacific are high, and when the cold phase is in effect (La Niņa), surface pressures in the western Pacific are low.[2][3] Mechanisms that cause the oscillation remain under study.
In popular usage, El Niņo-Southern Oscillation is often called just "El Niņo". El Niņo is Spanish for "the boy" and refers to the Christ child, because periodic warming in the Pacific near South America is usually noticed around Christmas.[4] "La Niņa" is Spanish for "the girl."

Ha! It's supposed to be 16C here tomorrow, and next week we are expecting snow too...

But that's not unheard of.

nah, its Bush's fault...just like its his fault the gas prices rose, even though they are going back up with during the obamathon.

I heard that, last I heard they didnt know if the snow was going to make it down to OKC. Hope we get enough to keep all the nondrivers home for a couple days.

It snows so much that i hesitated between buying a truck, or just go for a snowmobile.

lolololololol

We didn't get as much snow this winter, or maybe it's because when we got some, it melted right away, and then the rest was freezing temps, go figure last year we had huge snowbanks but not this year.

I cant wait for the Texas summer, then you wont see anything but 90-100 degree weather for 4 months. This winter was messed up. We got snow twice! Supposed to be nice and warm today, then rain on saturday, thunder storms next week.
