Wife may need an "Escape"
So at the beginning of the year I had to get the wife a new ride since her oil pump went out on the freeway with her old POS.
I found her a nice 00' Millennia S. 210 HP supercharged little rocket.
Well, we moved to the part of town that has long steep hills to get up or down. We never expected to move to this part of town, but we were given the offer and we jumped at the chance.
Winter can be a bitch up here so I want to go trade in her car on an Escape. I'll be looking at the 3.0 V-6's.
Anybody have any info on what to look for? I know our Ranger 3.0's are pretty solid, same engine? Do they come with a limited slip diff? Any crazy known issues to watch for?

Re: Wife may need an "Escape"
I'm not going to do a 5.0 swap at any point. She already approved of a diesel Excursion, but I'm waiting until I can afford the truck and new engine before getting one.
Just need to know about an Escape

Re: Wife may need an "Escape"
my buddy has an 03ish escape, awd auto v6. The cats failed and it got new heads pretty early in its life. They took care of the thing and it now has 300k on it. original bottom end and trans. the head work was the only thing its really had, and that was done under warranty.

I just bought my wife a gorgeous 2007 trailblazer. We looked at escape, but I wanted to be able to pull.

My parents own a 2012 Ford Escape. It's FWD, 3.0L V6, 6 speed auto. It's a great, powerful vehicle. You can also haul inside of it - believe it or not. We managed to fit in a 55" TV inside and at another time fit in a 60" Entertainment center. Like I said before, check out www.escapecity.com to see how people are doing with their Escape, might get a couple ideas on mods too.

Re: Wife may need an "Escape"
I would love a newer one, but I can't justify it anymore. 5k for a decent vehicle and $1,700 for a warrantied rebuild sounds better. Title in hand. Lol
I was looking around '03ish. I like the style. I don't need her rig for pulling. That's what the Excursion with a built and bullet proofed 6.0 will be for. Lol I am thinking 31's and a roof basket with lights though.

Plus this would eventually be handed down

Re: Wife may need an "Escape"
Anybody know if they have a limited slip? I wife is among the other large percentage of women who can't drive on ice. Lol
The escape would have more room than the millennia anyway. It has that snug sports car feel to it

Re: Wife may need an "Escape"
The escapes I've drivin (dads and mother in laws) did not
On ice just go buy some Yokohama a034 tires or blizzaks and tractionize them
On ice you get a lot of wheel spin ( big motor, light car, mtouch throttle) but as long as you arnt retarded. Brake/coast threw corners it's not bad.
Iirc my mother in laws was averaging 25 mpg. I drove it for a month this summer
My dads went threw a transmission at 75k miles, gear tooth come off a planetary , went into another planetary and got chewed up. Grinding noises hard shifts
My mother in laws starting to slip a lot at 110k
Both have a/c issues.
And I believe they are both 2007s

My sister use to have one. I didn't like riding In it, the ride was rough, steats not very supportive. And not enough leg room for me.

Thank you for actually answering my questions. I plan on having the motor and trans rebuilt not long after buying it and I'll be beefing up anything needed to make it last. When I put 31's in it I'm going to redo the suspension and make it a more comfortable ride.
She's not retarded on ice, but she can't feel the road like I can and feather the throttle. So having 4WD for her night drive home is kind of needed. Climbing hills in ice with a 210hp light ass car is tricky. Lol. It would be nice to have an SUV for the dog so his tail isn't in my face while driving. Lol
