Default Easily switch rear axle ratio multiple times? (Non-ranger)

I don't know all of what goes into changing the axle ratio, whether it's swapping axles completely or what.

Say I had a... non-daily-driver car. Wanted to put in a 5.13 ratio or something. How easily could I switch back to say a 4.10 (or even lower like a 3.73) for something like a long trip in the vehicle and not spend a crazy amount on gas?

what vehicle, the way the ranger is set up is stupid. In my old toyota, the complete differential is bolted to the housing, and is very simple to remove.

what kind of car would you want to put a 5:13 in? I had a friend who had one in his mg auto/x car, and it would top out at about 50. Unless your doing something like that, why would you want to?

Just exploring ideas. No specific car but would probably be a vintage.
