I put new plywood down, 1/2 inch hardy board and 13x13 inch ceramic tile. If you have a small kitchen do not go with a 12x12 inch tile it will make the room look small. Bigger the tile the bigger the room appears. I replace all my drywall, new wiring, copper pipes, relocated ductwork, windows...everything is new...
I tore out old sticky square 12x12 tile and nasty subfloor.

Nice. I went with a 12x12 tile in the kitchen, turned out really nice. Sounds like you did a lot of remolding. Lol.

As long as youre happy with thats all that matters. I was with out a kitchen for about a month. I tore out old plaster and had a 30 yard dumpster sitting in the driveway. The old cabinets were built to the wall and were a bitch to tare out.

Very true. I was out a kitchen for two days for the tile. Lol. Did you install quality cabinets? Any new appliances? What type of wall do you have? Wood or drywall? Idk why I'm asking all these questions...

I used cabinets from Lowes...stained and poly myself and hung. New appliances including built in microwave and cast iron double sink that weighs about 200 pounds. I hung new 5/8 drywall. I put in new wiring too. I can send you pics if you like. I'm at work and i'm getting ready to head home in a few minutes.

I will once I get to work in the morning. I have down load off my laptop and I don't have Internet at the house anymore.

Re: how to remove vinyl tile from kitchen floor?!
Well a large floor scraper would be the preferred method. Works for everything from laminate to carpet padding to luwon(spelling?) to old ceramic tile Heat gun and putty knife would take all day.

A square shovel should do the trick
