If you're worried about it being hot in your lap, just get a board, cut it to the size of the bottom of the laptop, and set it on top of it every time you use it. You can cut channels in it horizontally so that it can still pull air from around it for the fans. But you don't need to spend a ton of money on it.

my boss & a coworker walked in the door with me...

at least we're not working on the server today - just cleaning up code

Doesn't sound too bad. Just when the ******* who "accidentally" ran updates fixing another problem after hours yesterday is non existent when you need him to go restart that server sucks. Not getting a response from the server. Either a shut down or an f1 screen I hope.

KVM switch is going bad. I'm hoping its just not reading the keyboard and is sitting at that screen.
