Brewing up a one hop ipa today, using nelson sauvin for the hops. Going the easy route with safale us-05 for the yeast, can pitch dry and it has very little flavor character, ferments clean too. Ill ferment this for a week, dryhop for a week and keg and force carb. So it should be ready in about 3 weeks.

Oh yeah. That's what I meant when I said it depends on what you're making. They have recipie specific yeasts now. Fleischmann's isn't that bad actually especially if you're doing a corn based recipie and it's even better with a sour mash (I don't like those myself). It is bad for beer though.

That's a pretty quick turn around for you. You usually take a week longer than that. Good yeast is the key to making any alcoholic beverage. The peach brandy I made last year is a good example. I didn't have enough yeast in the recipie and the peaches over powered the entire recipie. So I started over and did a yeast starter instead with more yeast and it worked. It was like drinking a fresh made peach cobbler instead of canned peach juice X10. The bread yeast came through just enough to tone down the peach flavor.

Yep, beer brewing has come a long long way in the last 20 years. I didnt end up making the beer today as i had other errands to run and time got away from me. My turn around on beers is 2-3 weeks and i have a ton of bottles and 2 kegs so i can keep a lot of beer on hand.

Oh yeah it amazes me how far along things have come in terms of home beer brewing, wine making and even home distilling. I learned that I can do a nuetral based wash like I'd normally do and infuse any flavor I want right when I'm distilling which is pretty cool. It blew me away to say the least. The flavor I did was York Peppermint patty.

That sounds good. Why not much head? Some people are wanting me to do both my peach cobbler brandy and they're squealing for my mint shine.

Nice, the oils in the pecans will probably kill any head on the beer.

That's typical with pecans. The Pecan & Caramel whiskey that I have calls for me to boil the pecans twice because if I don't, all you will taste is the caramel and get no pecan flavor.

I know one way that'll get him hooked almost immediately. Instead of buying all of the expensive equipment and stuff like that online or in a homebrew shop, just show him what he can use that can be found anywhere. Places like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart etc. Everyone of them carry items that can be used in homebrewing. Home Depot and Lowe's drinking coolers makes great fermentors.

Default The Submarine Blackpot Still....

I just got the final detail about what's needed to build the submarine blackpot still. All I can really say is that I've used them in the past, but I was never really told the details about how to build one. I'm not going to say when I used them either, even though the statue of limitations had ran out 10 years ago. Here's what's needed to build one:

#1: Solid Pine wood:
When I met Tim and Tickle about a year ago, they both promptly said to use solid pine wood and to make sure that it had been dry kilned. They said that once I had finished building it, that it would alot lighter to move around than one made out of the other types of wood. Plus you'll need the wood to be bone dry for later.

#2: 2 sheets of thin guaged stainless steel:
Remember that you'll need thin sheets of stainless steel because you'll be using nails and screws and if it's too thick, you'll never be able to drive them through the steel.

#3: Roofing nails and screws:
This is the last detail I got from Tim Smith via email. He's very quick to respond to serious distilling questions. He said to use lots of roofing nails because this is what's going to give you your seal later on. The small screws is only used to help hold stuff in place if you're by yourself (which I am).

Basically you're building 2 small picnic tables and fastening them togther and wrapping them in stainless steel. The specs for a 3 gallon pot are as follows:

Length: 14 inches
width: 12 inches
height: 11 inches

After you've built your submarine pot, you'll now need to fill it completely full with water and keep it completely full for at least a week (or until it stops leaking). Once it has stopped leaking, then it's ready for it's first use. You basically have to follow the same directions that come with a wooden barrel. Do NOT use any calks or sealants of any kind what so ever on this pot. You're making alcohol people and it's highly corosive and you wouldn't want this stuff in your final product. Homedistiller.org might say otherwise, but they also contradict themselves on a regular basis to. They say don't use a plastic milk jug and yet they also recomend using water that's been stored in a plastic jug from the super market. So do yourself a favor and avoid them. The people that run that site along with artisandistiller.net don't need to be making spirits period.

It has great pecan flavor, used toasted pecans in it. I also brewed up 6 gallons of a single hop ipa. pitched the yeast about 30 minutes ago.

yeah! I told him to let me help cause of that lol! i should have him set up with with my spare stuff plus maybe $40 in a siphon, hoses, bottle filler etc...

i was hoping he'd have a preference on tapping a spigot on the buckets lol! then he wouldn't even need the siphon haha!

good thing is that he's pretty dang good with plumbing, welding, soldering, etc... so if i'm lucky, he'll be building me equipment down the road hahahaha!!! if he could learn to build a still, man oh man we'd be in business!

Shoot me a PM. Milehigh Distilling has this availible:

http://www.milehidistilling.com/2-in...pe-to-keg-kit/

I plan on building my own distilling tower here pretty soon. I'll probably have more than enough material left over to build you one. It won't cost you thing. I just need to know the details and features that you'd want. you're getting a free distilling tower. Only you and guell will get one for free. Everyone else I'd have to charge.

Yea, its one variety of hops, 3 ounces in the batch. Used Nelson sauvin, its a new Zealand hop.

That's a really good hop variety right there and it's extremely popular to. I tried some in wine recipie and it helped in a big way. My uncle gave me a wine recipie and it was way too sweet. So I added the Nelson sauvin hop to the next batch and the wine was gone in no time. I plan on trying to distill that recipie to see how it turns out. But I still have to wait to get what I need though.
