Re: Homebrew Thread
and it's nice to have a stir spoon lol
so, basically (1) you get the kit (consists of one 3.3lb can of hopped malt extract and one 3.3 lb can of regular malt extract & a packet of dry yeast)
2) the easy way is to be super super clean (clean everything - the bucket, lid, hands, arms, face, tools...)
3) heat up 2 gallons of the water & poor into bucket & then open both cans & poor in contents.
4) stir that shit until it's fully disolved (add hot water if you need)
5) once it's disolved, fill with cold/cool jugs of water to help get the temperature back to room temperature (let it sit with teh lid on it if it's still hot after this)
6) when it's at room temp (~72F) add yeast
7) put lid on & put airlock on8) wait 10 days or so & then siphon into the 5 gal carboy (sample it too haha)
8) wait another week or 10 days & siphon back into the original bucket
8.5) add sterilized priming sugar (about a half cup of dextrose or table sugar if you don't have any)
9) sphon into bottles with teh bottle filler
10 cap them
11 wait another two weeks for it to carbonate lol
12 drink bitches!

or two small pots on two different burners haha! that's how i did it at first, before i got my turkey fryer pot lol
----------
oh, and two very important tips:
1 cleanliness is the number 1 rule!!!
2 for beginners, it's not exact science... as long as it's clean lol
you don'thave to do exactly 2 gallons of hot water - it doesn't matter except that the extract dissolves lol
----------
aaannnndddd, the brew must be at room temperature when the yeast is added... it's alive & a big temperature shock will kill it haha

Re: Homebrew Thread
any all-extract recipe online is totally fine for a new homebrewer as well. just get the right ingredients, be clean, mix it in (boiling water is safer/cleaner of course), add yeast at the right temp... & the rest is just cake lol

yeah, i have been fortunate. i'm a nut about keeping it clean. cause when you get a batch infected with mold or bacteria, it's disheartening haha
----------
another tip... the more 'oxygenated' the liquid is, the better for the yeast. it loves lots of oxigen to start

Re: Homebrew Thread
some people get a mortar mixing paddle, sterilize it, and put it on the drill & whip air into the brew (also called the wort)...

if you buy a extract 'kit', then it comes with the yeast packet. it's under the cap that snaps over the top of the can.
BUT, if you buy only a can of unhopped extract, it will not come with yeast.
actually yeast is cheap. you can get a packet for around a dollar. i bought a ten pack of champagne yeast off of amazon for like $9 shipped haha! came in the mail box.

haha! yeah, imma try to make some meade like that - just honey, sugar, yeast, water, all together in a few plastic 2 liter jugs haha! oh, with air locks...
but yeah, it's cheap & easy. you just leave it in the closet or wherever & forget about it until it's done! haha!

Re: Homebrew Thread
What would a homebrew thread be without me, L.O.L. Hey Rob have you tried any of those recipies I gave you yet? The best advice is to clean and sterilize everything. Sanitizer is good but if you use too much of it, it will give you the craps really bad. The best yeast that I found so far is Fleishman's active dry yeast or baker's yeast. You can get it cheap at your local super market. Turbo yeast is good, but it tends to be a little expensive and you usually don't have enough of it. Not unless you did what Rob did and buy a lot of it off Amazon.com. Here's a website that you'd be interested in:
http://www.northernbrewer.com/
^They carry everything for brewing your own beer and wine.

Yeah the southern sweet tea recipie is easy. Just add a tea bag(s) to your collection container along with some sugar. The cornflake recipie is a little harder.
