Default In Utah, a move to seize federal land

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-a...0,841750.story
I personally think this is kinda weird. The state claims that the Federal Government has to sell its land AND give Utah 5%... That would be the worst deal ever made. Basically, if you don't read the article, Utah wants to develop roads and Oil and Gas exploration on National Park land, so they are trying to seize it through eminent domain. The government will say no and it will most likely go to the supreme court. Utah seems crazy. I don't think it sets a good precedent to allow or even try to develop anything land set aside as wilderness or a National Park. Whats the point of having national parks if they are just going to be used to search for oil?

Because the fed government isn't doing its job and many states are looking for their own solutions. Also many fed parks (as the sign in pic shows), you can't use the land, even for hiking, because something might be damaged. How can you enjoy a park if you even get to it.

The Federal Gummit so far has done nothing but continue the slide downward. You can not spend money you dont have to prop up a failed economy. We need to get back on track to actually producing rather than spending

regardless of your current views about the government, an area set aside as national park or wilderness shouldn't be given to oil and gas companies. and a lot of areas where you are not allowed to hike or camp in are classified as wilderness. There is a difference between national park and wilderness. Wilderness lacks any sort of man made structure, including roads. If i were managing a wilderness area i wouldn't want people wandering around in there because it would be extremely difficult to rescue them once they get lost.
And beside all that, the federal government owns the land, not lease. So the federal government can determine what it wants to do with the land, the state shouldn't be allowed to overrule that, just as state owned land should not be allowed to be overruled by the federal government.

The feds do it all the time, that's the problem. Whats the difference between custom cabins on wilderness land and oil. Both are going to spoil it, just in different ways. The point is most of Utah's open lands have been taken over by the feds with the state having nothing to say about it. Also states are required to do more and more because of fed requirements without reimbursement. Feds want things done, but they don't want to spend there money on it so they make the states pay for it. The land grab is just a small example of why states are fighting back.

i understand that point. I just think it is dangerous to set aside a national park and then develop it years later.
