The weight is distributed, and since it is only about 150 lbs., it is like carrying an extra passenger. I had an A.R.E. on, and I noticed absolutely no difference in m.p.g.'s. If anything, I think it may have helped because it decreased the drag, but that would be a debatable Mythbusters episode. All things aside, you should not notice any major differences.

Yes, at first you do have to become more aware of blind spots. However, I feel that it gets easier over time.
