Default In a awkward situation - car talk

alright, i need some opinions from you guys as non of my friends seem to understand anything about vehicles.

heres some backround info...

first off, i was planning all year to buy 33"s with my tax return money, i only got 880$ back. they are going to run me 1200-1300$

i also owe my mom 650$ but shes fine with slow paments, although id rather not ya know?

now i also own a 93 civic lx.. its great on gas, fun to drive AND is always good for a backup vehicle when my truck breaks.
BUT its slowly having one problem after another, burns oil, im always topping the oil up, it has around 200,xxx - 300,xxx kms (unknown because old spedo stopped working, new spedo in there says
240,xxx)..always burning through front tires (camber wear) basically im not too sure when the motor will blow up.

so heres my situation..
-do i keep my car, pay my mom back with my tax return, and slowly save for 33"s (keep in mind mud season is approaching fast)

-do i pay my mom back with tax return, sell my car for 1000-1200$ and use the leftover tax money to buy tires?

-do i put my tax money aside, and save for the rest of the tires, then start paying my mom back?

-or do i put the tax money aside, then pay my mom back AND save up at the same time? (small payments, long time saving up)

im horrible at making these decisions and could use an opinion or two.

Get rid of the car. Use that money to pay your mom back. Use the tax return and the remainder of the car money to get 33s

get rid of the POS honda and pay your mom back first. then you should have enough after a little saving for some nice 33s.

Hey man I drive 32 miles a day round trip to work and on days when I'm not working I usually go places anyway... If I didn't have my Escort there is NO way i could afford to keep filling my 4.0 weekly with all my other bills... If I were you I would take care of the money you owe your mom first then sell the car use that money plus the leftover tax money and buy another reliable car after saving a little while and hold off on the tires.... I know that's not what ya wanna hear I wouldn't either but it's the most practical and honest way I see to handle that situation. Tires are always gonna be there to buy when the money comes around! Hope this helped man!!!!

i was thinkning that too, but the main reason i got the car in the first place was because i lived out of the city. 60kms each way to work. So it has already payed for itself in gas i would have used lol.. but now i live literally 5 mins from work and everything is right around me = more affordable.

i was thinking, get rid of the car, and when next winter comes around, buy another 500$ beater to get me through winter, without risking someone hitting my truck.

this way ill have tires, and mom payed off.. with no moneypit car to worry about,

but then worry about having a backup car..

Always best to pay off debts first

Pay mom, sell honda, get tires

Personally I HATE being in debt. Because then you're working knowing that the money your working for is gonna go to somebody else. I say pay your mom back with the tax refund. Sell your Honda. And buy tires for your truck.

oh trust me i hate being in debt too, i thinkthat is the best plan though, pay her back, sell the car, buy tires. i dont know how much i could sell my 31"s for.. they have uneven wear becase my balljoins have messed them up. lots of tread just bumpy till it evens out, mabie i could even sell them for a couple hundred and put that money towards tires too?

i know that haha thats why im also sketched out and wanna get rid of it.. but also feel bad for the next guy who buys it and it blows up on him. but im not gonna be shady and tell him its perfectly fine, but im not gonna go out and tell him everything thats wrong with it, unless he asks "does it burn oil? how are the brakes" etc.. ill tell him yes it burns some oil, brakes are brand new.. "

that way its his own fault for not asking what he should have asked before he bought it lol.

Some people think Hondas run forever. Any body who buys a car with that mileage can't expect it to run forever.

Not a fan of the honda, but having a 2nd car if really helpful if you have a major problem with your truck, costing a lot, and need a ride to work and such. But since it has a lot of problems, might be better to get rid of it. Your call OP. Just make sure you sell the car noting it has an oil leak.

oh of course lol. i wouldent want to be ripped off like i did when i bought the car...oh well i only bought it for 500$ lol

it was full of rust when i got it, i fixed all that, painted it with rustoleum fixed the oil leaks.. lots of shit here and there, brakes, new hood (salvage yard), summer rims and tires ready to go on. 2.5" cat back stainless exaust, lowered 3" front strut bar, jdm shift knob, jdm corner lights. interior is mint. so i figure with all that i can get my money back plus some at 1200$, considering cars that look way shitteir are going for 1000$ no questions asked
