Default The F-150 has been replaced...

......as my daily driver!

The almost $300 a month Ive been paying in gas to get me to and from work was starting to hurt more an more so Ive been tossing around the idea of a cheap commuter car or truck. I originally wanted a 2wd 4 banger Ranger but to get one around here reasonably priced is tough, its like they are made of gold or something, way overpriced so reluctantly I started looking at cars, which I hate. Came across this 2003 Focus, liked the price, liked the car so I bought it. With the money I save in gas driving this I will save me about $150 monthly. My F-150 will get parked and will only come out on really crappy winter days and when I need to tow with it.

Anyways, here is my new chick car!

Specs:

2003 Focus SE
147,000 miles
2.0 4 banger
5 speed manual
4 awesome doors
some rust
previous collision repair

Thanks, it seems decent. Runs and drives well. Leaks a little oil from the valve cover and the AC condenser is damaged but thats easy stuff to fix. The nice part is that is has newish snow tires and these cars get high 20's, low 30's for mileage.

The problem is the added cost of insurance (plus registration, inspection, upkeep) of owning another vehicle kind of nullifies the savings in gas. I think it would take a number of years to even break even. Just my .02..reason I decided not to get a second commuter car

Not bad, looks like a really cute car!

...but seriously, can't say it's a bad idea, saving money is always a good thing.

No inspections here, registration is 80 a year and insurance is so cheap for this car it's a non issue. I've done my homework, even after you break down registration and insurance I will still be saving over $100 a month over my truck. Trust me, I wouldn't have decided to park my beautiful F150 in favor of this if it wasn't saving enough to make it worth my while.

Fair enough. I know a lot of people don't do their homework and just think buying a second car will save a ton of money. It makes the most sense if you drive a loonng commute (not in my case)

It looks pretty good. My Silverado has already out performed my ranger in every area I can possibly think of. From fuel ecomomy (31 mpgs) to power. It's already proven that is costs me less to own the Silverado than it was for my ranger. Alot of people that I know have been complaining about the F-150's fuel economy. They say it isn't good at all.
