Angry WARNING/BEWARE: I just needed to vent!

I purchased a used Husky 80 gal. air compressor, it had a date code of 9-12-06. When I walked into my shed where its located the other day, I heard a hissing noise, thought one of my joints need some fresh teflon tape....NOOO, I found a crack by the factory welded on bracket that the pump & motor are mounted on. I shut it down, drained it IMMEDIATELY!
The number on the tank it says to call goes to CHPower (Campbell-Hausfield), so I told them of the problem, they asked for the model#, serial#, which I gave them, they said it was out of warranty, but would check since it was a tank integrity issue. They said YES, they would warranty it, but I had to call a local repairman they used to order the tank & replace it. I called McCoy Auto Parts which was the # they gave me, he says he had to call for authorization.
Mr. McCoy calls me a day later, says that they wouldn't cover it since I'm not the original purchaser. So I call back to CHP to find out WTH is goin on, as I told them that, but since it's not a normal wear & tear issue, they said it would be covered.............nobody will return my calls is 2 days. I need this compressor operationable.........so I called a certified welder, he came over today, had to put some hellatious welds on it, as the crack ran 2 different direction, one of which was followin the FACTORY WELDING.....here are pics FYI:

And of course, CHP don't have a email contact, so I emailed Home Depot with a DISSATIFIED CUSTOMER notice. I'd like to at least be refunded the cost of the welding.

THANKS for listenin!

Man, that sucks. I always thought CH was good to deal with. Glad you got it fixed before anything worse happened. That could've been disastrous.

i know your upset, and maybe im just missing a point here, but you are upset on a used welder? Most warranties are for the original owener, and who knows what the orignal owner did with the tank, could be their fault that its damaged

Ya, you missed the point................these tanks should last for YEARS, way beyond 3 IMO, and as I said, its not a normal wear & tear issue here, its the INTEGRITY of the tank.

I'm curious, what do you think you could do to cause this tank to crack by a factory weld short of throwin it off a loadin dock somewheres????

Post Update: 2-26-10

FYI: Home Depot cares more than Campbell-Hausfeld, as I recieved a phone call from the store manager today from the HD closest to me, and he was VERY APOLOGETIC, as he understood my email better than his Home Office Superiors he contacted. He said their response was, "whats this guy wantin?" and he told them that the way he read the email was, I was letting them know that there was a problem with a supplying manufacture, not necessarily HD and that he was gonna contact me and offer what he did to somewhat take the sting out of it bein a HD sold product. I emailed HD because they sell the stuff and was more of a FYI for them that CH don't back their product even when it's a FACTORY DEFECT! He asked me questions bout the compressor, and I was very honest with him, as I told him I had bought it second hand, but with the data plate date if should of lasted a whole lot longer than 3 yrs. He asked what it cost me to repair it? I told him, and he said he was goin to put a note in the system, and notify his CSM's that I had a in-store credit for said amount, as he was very understandin, and did appreciate my honesty & bein a customer that notified him of possible problems with a product they carried the was manufactured for them.
I told him that I was very appreciative of his kindness for the credit (refund) and for his time & consideration.

Glad to hear home depot stepped up to the situation. Although I'm surprised they would do that knowing you didn't purchase it from them. Good customer service does pay off in the long run though...
