I used to hit the yards frequently for side cash from treasures that would show up. The old cars that i used to hit are drying up so well, I don't do it as much anymore.

My best find was a 67 Thunderbird that JUST hit the ground when i got on that aisle. Why is that a big deal? well lets break it down

- $12 for the air cleaner and I sold it for $411 on Ebay
- $4 for the rag joint and $65 on Ebay
- $5 for the smog tubes and fittings and $45 on Ebay
- $Free.99 for a Pertronix kit that was on it. Gave it to a buddy that was with me
- $Free.99 for a remote cable trunk release from the same T-bird. Gave it to my buddy too.

Air cleaners on 67 Thunderbirds are special. They are junkyard gold f you find them. I was tempted to take the Kelsey Hayes calipers that are on those cars too, but I didn't have the tools with me to take all that off.

I have been 'yardin for years. A friend of mine is much more hardcore than I ever was but I learned a ton from him about what's a hot buy and what to avoid.

One I learned to avoid was Chevy parts. I took a SUPER clean rust free 64 Chevelle apart at the yard and took all the front end sheet metal to resell. Well, Chevy guys are CHEAP, and although I made money on the parts themselves, I had to sit on them so long it wasn't worth it to me. I would not repeat that again.

Far and away, my best JY find happened while scrounging for parts for my brothers '57 F100. came around a corner and found a '67 Fairlane station wagon. Complete, clean, all original, 80K miles, locked up motor. $600. My favorite car I have owed to date. With a rebuilt motor, I put over 200K miles on that thing, and loved every minute of it.

Depends (Yes, I know those are for old people.. haha)...

The yard I took all the stuff from the 02 from, was a u-pull-it in damascus, that's no longer a self service yard, it's closed to the public. But they still pull parts.

I do have a B&R about 1 block from my house though, that I go to every few weeks to check out the recent additions to their yard!

I understand what you're saying about the making money part concerning chevy parts, but one problem. That's just about all you find in a salvage yard. Here's some great finds that I found this past december when I finally got a chance to visit a local junk yard:

Yes it still runs all it needs is a battery. And they want $650.00 bucks for it and the tranny. This is what I wanted and yet they won't give me a price on it:

Here's what it came out of:

That's a 1983 Ford Econoline Van. The Engine is a 5.8 liter 351 Windsor.
He also has several old explorers but they're all V6's and here's an "old school" ranger that alot of people would love to have myself included:

He's also got a few more sitting up there too. When I hear salvage or junk yards I think about finding gold. One man's trash is another man's treasure. That old school ranger you see is a 1987 XLT Standard Cab. The one you see in the background is an 1983 standard cab but it's too far gone to do anything with. The floor is gone and the frame would have to be completely redone. Plus someone else beat me to it. Shame on them L.O.L.
