Default Gas! Does it matter?

so i was talking to my friend last night while he was getting gas. he went to chevron or whatever to fill up and was telling me how he goes there because they are cheapest. but i said "hey the arco down the street is 9 cents cheaper". and he replied "yeah but there gas is crap and watered down"

my question is does it really matter where you go to get gas?. but dont they all have to comply to some standard or something? or is arco and all those other cheaper places watering it down?

he was saying how in order to provide that 9 cents of savings to their gas that they are providing a lesser quality product. like they are diluting it in some way or something, i dont know what they would be doing it with i just know that he said water. i have no idea he got his facts.

Well water will hurt your engine.

Might just be who they get the gas from that is why it's cheaper.

We have a station here and they pump it for you. There is nothing there but gas pumps. There gas cost the same as a convenient store

arco does water down their gas. i used to run arco gas in my lawn mower and i had to have the carb rebuilt way too often. after awhile i switched it to chevron and havent had to rebuild the carb in about a year. i use costco gas in my truck tho.

how do you know that you lawn mower didnt just have a bad carb? and i was thinking dont they have a standard or something that they have to meet for there gas that would prevent them from watering it down?

i buy gas from either BP, Hess, or Racetrac. They don't import oil from the middle east. once i bought from shell and got like 140 miles out of my whole tank. the tanks before and after averaged 230 miles so i think it was bad gas lol

I usually stick to a more well-known larger name stations. I have noticed though that different stations I will get slightly better or worse gas mileage that tank.

I used to get my gas from a very cheap gas station. the gas was about 20 cents cheaper than anywhere in town. After a while though, my fuel pump went out. I now only go to shell; Their gas is a higher octane as well.

Ethanol is more oxygenated that just means it is an alcohol CH3CH2OH. Ethanol is less volatile and requires about 2 and a half times times the volume to get the same results as gasoline.

higher octane, as good as it sounds, is actually worse than lower octane gas. engines are tuned for certain octanes, and therefor they spark for a certain duration. higher octanes in a lower tuned octane car dont fully burn, leaving a bunch of crap in your engine. you can get tunes to use higher octane, but just use what you should normally use.
