My boxing day experience
First off just so everyone knows, Boxing Day in Canada is as big as Black Friday in the US
Well yesterday I went out to do a little Boxing Day shopping, I got the the Wally World about 5 mins before store opening. There was a decent sized line outside the doors but everybody was waiting patiently sipping on their Tim Hortons coffee/hot chocolates
The store opened and the line started going into the store, nobody was pushing, there was no one waiving a gun around, I didn't hear any yelling or screaming, just a bunch of happy customers eager to get a good deal.
I was there to do an exchange and buy a ps3, first I went to customer service to do the exchange and I beat the line up then I brought the exchange back to the truck and ventured back into the store to the electronics section.
The department was highly staffed and they set up a line where a store clerk would hand you a ticket for the item you wanted, that way you are guaranteed to get what you came for with the ticket.
As we were waiting in line the bakery manager handed out free cookies.
Once I got called up I handed then my ticket, got my ps3 and left the store.
I don't have any black eyes, broken arms, gunshot/stab wounds... I wasn't trampled over, pushed or yelled at either....
WELCOME TO CANADA!
Did anybody else go out for some sales?

I have a couple things to say about your experience. First, Canada is very small in population compared to the U.S., so naturally more problems likely would occur in the U.S. Second, this forum is mostly made-up of American citizens, so are you here to start trash? Third, one day of civil behavior does not mean anything because we haven't had any problems here in the U.S. the last couple days, so does that mean the safety factor greatly increased? Canada may have some advantages over the U.S., but by and large, we are still one of the greatest countries in the world, and a few psychos can't take that away.

No definitely not trying to start anything just saying that it was really well organized... I wouldn't have even been at the stores if it wasn't.
Your right the US is a great country as well, violence can happen anywhere, I just wonder why it happens more frequent offer there then here (over something like a sale)
Anyways, Canada and the USA are both 2 of the greatest countries

More people with more problems can lead to more violence, but there still needs to be exposure, and I don't blame the video game industry or gun manufacturers. If that were the case, every kid who played video games or cops and robbers would grow and become a criminal. I firmly believe the violence problem is multi-faceted and due to many issues, such as drugs, poverty, abuse, boredom, etc. There is a saying that "big cities have big problems, little cities have little problems", but that is not the case. Some little cities here in America have big drug problems, and I think that is a result of boredom, denial, availibility, etc., and the more problems that exist in a household or neighborhood, etc., the more problems that society as a whole will face.

We don't call it Boxing Day here, and, of course, after the Christmas holiday shoppers want to cash in the gift cards and get rid of the "undesirable" presents that were not wanted, are too small, the wrong color, etc. Personally, I've never been big on after Christmas shopping because usually I either receive what I want or I have that one big gift that I save up for vs. returning five or six items for five or six more. The adds looked weak, and the gift cards I received where for restaurants (Outback and BW3). I did receive some money, but it is going in the bank. On the other hand, my son got a VISA gift card, a Target gift card, and a ToysRUs gift card, and instead of spending it all at once, we can use it year round.

Every year, I say I'm going to go out and "see what the deals are" after Christmas, but I never do. I used to work retail, so I avoided stores after my shift was over, and since I pretty much received everything I wanted anyway, I have no reason to go to the "sales", which I don't think were that good to begin with anyway (according to the ads). I think online is the way to go since we can more easily comparison shop, plus get free/reduced shipping, etc.

I was reading about Boxing Day, and if they are lucky they receive two paid days off in a row, and if I were living in Canada and required to work on Boxing Day (which is a Canadian federal holiday) then my employer double-pays me for that day or gives me a day off with pay later in the week. However, Americans probably out rank Canadians with paid days off because it seems that some Americans have a day off per month with our holidays/observance days, etc.
