I have been trying to figure out if I wanna get a viper security system and I was wondering everyone's opinion on this matter???

It's like 600$ for remote start and the alarm.

Ive considered it, but decided not to, the remote start i dont need. But the alarm system would be nice if it wasn't so damn expensive. And its to sensitive for me. So it would be going off nonstop.

It would be cool. But its still to sensitive for me. From being parked in my driveway and walking past it to take the trash out, or at a job site with stuff constantly going past it, it would be so annoying. But good luck with your search.

My friend has the viper alarm on his '12 wrangler unlimited and if he locks the alarm and forgets and goes to open the door it will go off. His Jeep doesn't have power anything. Far too sensitive for me.

Don't waste your money since most individuals now are accustomed to hearing an alarm. I would just take precautions, and assuming you live and work in a decent area, then, nothing really can be done to totally prevent theft or vandalism. If the thief(s) really want something, they will get it.

Exactly, and I know people with and w/o alarms, and quite frankly, I think they are both a waste of money and a hassle. They can and do "go off", and some people tend to look the other way. Also, you don't want to be the annoying neighbor whose car constantly makes noise -- esp. if it is a false alarm.

I've had the Viper 5900 for about 5yrs. I paid about $600 & I Love it. Your alarm is only as good as your Installer. I believe out of the 5 yrs my alarm has went off(without provocation) 4 or 5 times. No,it's not a cure all for Theft but I'ld rather have an alarm than none at all. Like Insurance, who really wants the cost but if your car is totaled or stolen you are Happy you have the back up. The Viper have a two way pager to alert you when your alarm goes off & mine did, last year when a yard worker hit my door with his riding lawnmower. If my pager had not went off he would have just ridden off & I wouldn't had known who did it. He caused $1200 in damage & his company paid me a check. I went and got the dent popped out and put $1150 in my pocket. My wife Love the remote start in the winter. When it's cold or snow on the windshield she start the truck up in the comfort of the house and warm the truck up & melt all the snow off the windshield.Let me ask you if there are 2 trucks side by side both have nice Head units and only one truck have an alarm, which truck do you think the thief is going to break in? You can never be too safe, get an alarm!

Rangers are HIGHLY unlikely to be stolen according to insurance company data. If a stereo system is worth about $600 and the alarm system will cost $600, it is pointless. Add comprehensive coverage to your insurance policy, it's pretty cheap.

It's not only the system but the damage that's done to the door/window/ to get in & dash/electrical when they pull the system out. I have Full coverage on my 04 but if an alarm will make a thief think twice about breaking into my truck then $600 is a small investment plus the alarm won't hurt the resale value. There are always Pro's & Con's to what you do,I just favor a more proactive roll in keeping my truck safe.

The best thing to do is just not leave anything valuable in your car. Most people can steal anything they want out of your car before you can even react to an alarm, they don't hang around too long after the alarm goes of
