"Unauthorized vehicles prohibited" - Page 2

when i was clearing utility right-of-ways, up in north jersey one was very popular for dirtbiking / ATV's, even snowmobiles. it was posted with the "no unotherized vehicles" and gates prevented trucks from getting down there (except my ranger

) but no one from the company cared that people rode back there, the signs were more for liability reasons.

Then again, if the sign says stay out, then just stay the fu-k out. Thats like asking permission to break the law.

The comment about high voltage lines, gas lines, etc is a viable one and may be why the property is posted. If such a reason exists, I'm sure the property owner will say something when asked.

In the end, it's the owner's property, so showing respect even if you don't get the answer you want goes a long way. It might benefit you in the future and it certainly doesn't hurt to do so.

You definitely bring up some very good points that I didn't consider.

Alright thanks for all the replies! It's in a neighborhood and it looks like it goes out into the mountains behind the houses. Ill probably just stay off of them

That kind of sign is usually one put up by a state, city, or public utility. It is probably an access road to utilities, or a service road for municipal use. Private property is usually just a simple "NO TRESPASSING".

Either way, it is trespassing.

If its private property, depending on the state you're in. The owner can and may take a forceful action in defending his property. My neighbors know if someone climbs my walls, thats likely as far as "they" may get... Well posted on my 3 acre property that not only is it marked every 35 yards that its private property NO TRESPASSING, camera's are in full use on the property and record all actions.

As far as the signs you mentioned that are put up by a state, city, or public utility. Its restrictions can also be considered a form of trespassing but as a few others mentioned, most times as long as you're not caught destroying property willfully or doing dumbshit like donuts in the dirt just wrecking the landscape for a cheap thrill.. the typical GTFO

Got it dismissed and wont lie but barely and a task too... BUT, that was my first real court fight with that issue and I learned a lot too.
