Default time for all members to have their own OBD-II reader/scanner.

It's 2012. Code readers/scanners can be had for as low as $15. Time to get your own and learn to use it. The plan of going to AZ and wasting time and gas is over. Some states even outlawed code reading at the parts stores. .....For members that have one already ..please jump in and let us know what scanners you all have, how well they work and what they cost?......They make a great "holiday" gift!..............When your CEL comes on this winter you will thank Modelageek for getting you prepared......Merry Xmas to all!

I have the Ross Tech VCDS (HEX+CAN) for my diesel VWs which I have used with my 2011 Ranger. I've only tried it once but it seems to work just fine for pulling stats and codes through the OBDII module. I was able to determine that my recently acquired Ranger had never had any code resets done on it for instance. I will give it a more thorough workout next week. Hope this info helps someone else with a similar setup.

I have the Torque pro App on my phone and a bluetooth obdII adapter that can read codes, and all the sensor info including trans temp and mpg. It was worth the money for sure!

I have the Torque pro also. It costs $5 and you need a DROID device. I bought the elm 327 Bluetooth OBD-2 adapter from a guy in Brooklyn through eBay. I paid $15 for the elm. So for $20 I got a pretty good scanner. It is a great way for a beginner to learn about their truck and all the sensors. You also get to put a profile for each car you have. That way it is easy to go from one car to the next.

I have an SCT Livewire. I use it to read codes, datalog, check 1/4 times on the Mustangs I tune, est. hp/tq (Pretty close to actual), can view 4 PIDs at once, anything you need to do this thing will do.

Scanner is a basic tool and will pay for itself the first couple of times you use it...I have a
INNOVA 3160B ABS/SRS+ and the Torque pro app on my phone, bought the ELM on Ebay for $20, the Innova was $220 at O'Relly's auto parts.

Does anyone even make one that will work on a '98 4.0 OHV Ranger? Remember '98's are the ones with the OBD bug, that's why I didn't get an Ultragauge. It would've been a waste of money on my truck
