Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever seen. Like video taping while driving and not paying attention to traffic is any better. What a douche.

In NC police vehicles don't apply for the window tint law. Maybe seat belts are the same as tint.

Varies by state, and likely by department policy as well.

LEOs (on duty) are exempt from most vehicle related laws. In California I know they aren't required to wear a seat belt.

Fun fact: If you're thrown in the back of a squad car, you're also exempt from the seat belt laws (in California at least).

I was watching a cop show and they said the reason why they don't is because they can't get out fast enough if shit hits the fan.

IMHO, that's just a way of justifying it. It's not that hard unbuckle yourself when you're slowing down to a stop. Left hand on the steering wheel, right hand unbuckling. Do it a few times and it's just as quick as not wearing one.

IMHO, the more common reasons are:
1) It's uncomfortable. Remember some of these guys sit in their vehicles for hours at a time.
2) It's inconvenient. Constantly getting in & out of the vehicle... buckling, unbuckling... it's kind of a PITA.
3) The equipment gets in the way. They are wearing a bunch of items, and that adds to the lack of comfort. But it's also sometimes a PITA trying to buckle and unbuckle without dislodging something. There's plenty of stories where a cop is about to enter a foot pursuit, stops their car, unbuckles, jumps out... and their radio mic is now dangling to the floor because the seatbelt hit it, or etc.
4) Kind of the same as #3, but it can be a distraction. Just one more thing to think about, one more thing that can screw up a situation.

I suspect that most cops wear their selt belt on the highway, and remove it when cruising the local crime areas.

Senseless video. I thought it was funny how he actually thought a cop was going to pull over for him though. They do break laws though, what gives them the right to go 100 MPH when not responding to a call? I see it happen all the time. They ride your ass til you either speed so they can pull you over, or wait for you to get over so they can fly by.
