2012 Zombie thread
So with the up coming walking dead season starting tomorrow I figured on starting a 2012 zombie thread(not sure if there is one in existence, but there is now). So to start the discussion: bug out and survival kit. Some rules real quick before I get started on my kit choice:
1. Be realistic, please. I know in cod you can run around with a Barrett and desert eagle, but in reality that's at least 40+ pounds of gear, so please be realistic.
2. There are multiple strategies for "zombie survival," kit should be build around your strategy and goal.
3. To each his/her own. Since there is no right way, keep it clean PLEASE.

The wife and I have been stocking up on nonperishable foods and even made our own MREs. Also we each have an AR15, she has a 9mm, I have a .22 and were looking at getting a couple shot guns as well as a couple more pistols. We also have a ton of medical and sanitary items stocked. Not sure that was the type of response you were looking for but there ya go lol.

Continuing on, my kit would based around small group moving fast and light. Mystery pack, preferably a long bow or overload tri zip, first lite clothing (merino wool clothing), ness muk trio (leatherman/gerber, sog tomahawk, custom fixed blade; blades a little over four inches), comprehensive med kit, camelbak water bladders, basic survival kit (50' of para cord, fire kit, snare wire, needle and thread, etc.), water treatment pump and kit, small knife sharpener, nemo one person shelter, 20+ degree sleeping bag, EXCELLENT pair of hiking boots, pocket stove, little kiddy fishing pole with small tackle kit, pair of vortex binos, some mres as a last resort (3-5 days worth), and lastly a weapon; this is a complicated issue because firearms require ammo where a bow does not necessarily do. So for a primary weapon it would be a 870(someone else is bound to have a rifle...) because they are a dime a dozen or a recurve with aluminum shafted arrows. Secondary weapon would be a single action .357 revolver.

Re: 2012 Zombie thread
my zombie plan is pretty solid i think. i live out in the country, so the amount of walkers/zombies wont be very high, very few people live out here.
so thats one advantage i have. another, is being my dad has a 5 ton truck. and a bunch of empty 66 gal drums. id load up the back with the drums, and go fill them with diesel and gas from farmers houses. they all got tanks for their tractors and what not.
next stop would be over to my buddies house. he and his dad have a collection of about 100 guns. all working, and tons of ammo for each one. everything from handguns, to shotguns and tricked out semi-auto's.
last stop would be my brothers place. hes got 10 acres, with a huge dike around it with a drainage ditch just outside of it. wed fill that ditch with water and mud, to get the walkers/zombies stuck. much like in walking dead. also would have a barbed wire fence to tangle the up.
sleep in the house, store supplies and what not in the barn. of course everything fortified. and as the whole walker/zombie adventure was going on wed start building tunnels from the house to the barns and sheds, as well as to a location off property just in case where we have a vehicle and supplies stored for a getaway if needed.
me and my buddy have literally gone over so many plans. that ^ is the best so far.

Re: 2012 Zombie thread
Ideally, I would make the 1/2 hour trip to Cabela's and raid whatever I could from there but the problem with that is that everybody and their brother would probably have the same plan. So me and my friend already discussed about me coming down to his house which is only about 15 minutes away. His house sits up on a hill out in the woods. It has a full concrete basement which is accessible from the outside. Id bring all of my weapons/ammo and whatever food i could bring and my generator. My girlfriend would drive my ranger and I'd bring my Jeep. Both of my vehicles would fit in his basement. And we'd basically sit tight until we'd absolutely have to leave. With his house being surrounded by woods, there's plenty of deer, turkeys, and other small game. and if worse comes to worse, we could always go up on the roof. Between my deer rifles and my AR15 and all of his gun we could make one hell of a stand

I'm iffy on the use of firearms. Ammo is a resource, the more resources the more weaknesses. I prefer a bow because the arrows are reusable and repairable (wood or aluminum of course). And it is a recurve, the limbs can be replaced real easy if its a take down model.
But if you do have a large or renewable amount of ammo, firearms are real nice to have.
