Default Why are so many people just vulgar?

for anyone who lacks definition:
a. lacking in cultivation, perception, or taste : coarse
b : morally crude, undeveloped, or unregenerate : gross
c : ostentatious or excessive in expenditure or display :

I come here for advice and support keeping my 18 year old on the road. I understand that some people can be smug, but if that smugness comes with an answer i am ok with that.

why do some members just have to go on rants? or tell someone they are f***ing stupid then not offer any real help on the issue?

And why are these vulgar people allowed to stay? I can handle the rough Lagrange, i just prefer not to. I spend some of my time here on my work computer, and just hate to read all the F*** etc.

All i am saying (and no i am not a prude) is can't we all just clean it up a little? a bit more civilized?

now the test, to see how many F*** you responses this gets.

Also why do people get offended when someone tries to educate them on a topic for instance the legality of what they are trying to do? If i post a question that is illegal to pursue, i would appropriate someone pointing out "hey that could be a bad idea". Yea i may go ahead and do it but ignorance is no excuse from the law.

thank you for reading my venting,

I really don't know, but I can tell you that serious flamers do get at least a temporary ban. I think (not that it is important) that some members sit behind a computer and act tough, but in reality if we were to meet them, I think that the situation would be different. Most members here, though, are really cool, and one issue that sticks out is that "newbies" are picked on a little similar to a fraternity hazing. I wouldn't worry about it too much, and if things get totalling out of hand click on the red cone on the top right by the post count. That alerts the mods that a posting "is insulting/offensive", etc. and they can then delete the appropriate threads and/or ban a member. They can't, however, ban member(s) that they are unaware of. Welcome and sorry that you feel this way.

Nice vent.

But I would like educate you on a few things:
1. In America, we have "Fredom Of Speech", that is not limited to just non-vulgar speech.
Just because someone uses vulgar language, doesn't mean they are trying to be rude. Some people, like my older brother, can't help themselves when it comes to the F-word. They don't do it to be rude, its more of a force of habit.
Also because we have the Freedom of Speech, that also means, we/you have the freedom/right to be insulted, but it doesn't give you the right to act upon it.
For example, I have the freedom to say, Red is my favorite color, and the color blue sucks!
Well if blue is your favorite color, I guess I just insulted you?? This is a low-level example of course.
Another example that may bring out a fight or murder, would be "I think your mom is fat/ugly!" That is my observation, my thoughts, my exercise in free speech. Does it offend you, or your mom? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe you are "civilized" and you say, "You're entitled to your opinion and have the right to voice it, but I disagree." Or you can be un-civilized, and beat the crap out of me. Then I exercise my right to sue and press charges against you.

2. This is the Internet, people blog, tweet, rant, and say whatever they want, and most of them don't care who they offend. Go back to statement #1. The internet, currently, is an extension of the freedom of speech and press. Now some sites do censor and edit and try to keep this "un-civilized" bickering, cussing, etc to a minimal, they believe because they own the site, they have the right to limit free speech and free press.
Its like me coming to your house and you asking me, or demanding that i do not cuss, or say something offensive.
If their house is still on American soil, who are they to take away such freedoms! They may ask politely, and you may accommodate them and make them happy. But if you choose not to, then they can exercise their right to ask you to leave.
A website or forum can do the same, and they may try to "ban" you.
The mods and admins of this great site, do their best to weed out the trouble makers.

An American telling another American that he/she can not use their freedom of speech is hypocrisy.
My grandfather, a WW2 vet, said the following, "I may not like what you say, or agree with it, but I will defend your right to say it freely!"

3. I am sorry you came here and got offended, but if you are worried about bad language and being offended, please have your internet shut off, as well as your tv service, and throw out your radio and all newspapers.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action.
Freedom of speech = freedom to offend and be offended.

There are plenty of people on here, who are "civilized" and will gladly try to assist you in a polite manner. But we can't control the other people, im sorry.

Welcome to FRF and the world of internet forums.

no i am fine with that a little "ball busting" or the occasional swear is one thing but some posts just seem over the top. I get that you will have all kinds of people anywhere, that's human nature (see way too much at work)

but all in all i love the forum. helped me out a ton and keeps me bizzy at work. I am not bad mouthing it, just venting a little.

thanks for the tip of the red cone, had not realized that. thanks

don't get me wrong i get freedom of speech, been member of plenty of forums, again just venting. We all can be a bit rude or condescending at times, just one of those things, i felt like venting and did, ahh freedom of speech... bask it in...

thanks for you input

This ^^ We (the staff) do our best to keep the forum as clean as possible but with hundreds of new users and posts made per day we can not see them all and catch everything. It is the responsibility of the individual members here to help us out by pointing out problem members/ posts ect. by reporting it like posted above. If you read through the rules here you will find that vulgar language, personal attacks and hostility are not allowed here and when we see it we take care of it the best we can. You need to keep in mind though that this is the internet, people will say things here that they would likely never say to someone's face. Id say overall we as a site have done a great job of curbing most of that behavior but some slips by us. If you think this site is bad I invite you to visit pretty much any other forum out there, this site is like puppys and kittens compared to many other sites.

i am 30 and if i say something uncouth in front of my parents to this day either will slap me even in public.

just seems like society has taken a nose dive,
my girlfriend is a teacher and i a funeral director we see it first hand everyday. Some days it gets hard to take, this vent has been a long time coming, and i am not pegging this whole forum with it, don't think that.

How people communicate with others is telling of what kind of person they are.
When among close friends, I certainly may cuss and swear here and there.
But in public do I go around cussing and swearing? No. Of course not.

I do not believe that the freedom of speech under the First Amendment gives anyone the right to be rude.
Under law you might espouse your ability to free speech, but you might just find that no one is listening anymore!

The best we can do is police ourselves, and try to set an example to follow, rather than be lead by the nose. We can't control what others say, or how they express it, but my might be able to influence it, at least a little, by not reflecting the example that's been given.

Some people are vulgar because they are not educated enough to express their opinions in a different way. Most of them don't know any better.

Others do it to try to act cool and be an E-thug.

I'll admit...sometimes I bust peoples balls on here who I think deserve it due to idiotic responses and actions. But I do it in a civilized manner. I have no personal problems with anyone on this forum so the name calling/cussing at them/exc is just plain stupid. I'm on quite a few forums, an have been for years. FRF is overall an entertaining forum, but the majority of the population here is younger. With that comes an immature nature.

On a side note, you're 30 years old and you have an 18 year old son???? WTF
