News for your area
I thought that I would start an interesting thread. Throughout the years, different areas of the country are known for different unsolved crime -- some which is discussed/debated for decades. What is your area known for, if any? Cleveland, Oh has a couple that I'm aware of. The first involves a prominent physician named Sam Sheppard accused of killing his wife. The case dates back to the 50's and has a couple of twists. The first is that no weapon was ever found. The second is that the gardener/house-keeper, who was convicted of another murder, admitted to the crime and then recanted. Also, he has since been deemed "mentally unstable". I'm only in my 30's, so this was well before my time. I don't know "the whole story" whether their were marital issues or affairs, etc. I also don't know the evidence against him. I feel very bad for the son, Sam Sheppard, Jr., who was very young at the time and is convinced that his father was innocent. Every time new evidence surfaces, an appeal for the gardener, etc., the son is interviewed on t.v., and he seems a credible source (if biased because noone wants to believe their own parent is capable of such a heinous crime). The second case that I'm aware of involves a young girl named Amy Miholovic (spelling) who disappeared in the 80's at a very young age (about 8 years old). I think that she was walking to school and never made it despite some clothing ID'd as hers being discovered, yet no body ever was found. Disturbing in that case was a suspect who I don't think was ever charged, but was considered "a known person", and to take that a step further lived a distance from the residence, knew the family, was also mentally unstable/retarded, and possibly confessed then recanted. It has baffled authorities for years that a person can "disappear w/o a trace". If interested, please add your unsolved stories.
