The current gal in my life is bugging me for when I'm gonna take her to look at bows? The main reason I haven't is because I can't decide if she should get a bow like me, or get a crossbow so she has an easier time when I take her out hunting. Any opinions?

My wife has been asking the same thing and I am going to get her into a compound bow. When set to the proper poundage/draw length, it should be fine for her. Any newer bow is at least 70% let off so even at only 45lbs draw weight she's really only holding 13.5 lbs back and that should be fine considering her 12 year old sister hunts with a bow set to that draw weight..
Even a 50lb draw weight bow with even only 60% let off would only be 20lbs which would be fine as well..

That is my thought on it, however I haven't shot a crossbow myself so I'm not sure on it but I work with a guy who has a crossbow and he said its much more difficult for hunting purposes. Which really, if you think about it it would be; think about carrying your bow horizontal and walking through the woods, it would catch on any twig or briar bush.. And I'd like to see you **** a crossbow when up in a tree stand...

Whatever you get make sure it is legal to hunt with. Only reason I say that is because here in Utah it is illegal to hunt with a cross bow unless you have a disability that prevents you from using a bow.

Have you ever pulled back a crossbow? They are much slower to reload than a bow. For a zombie attack a bow would win over a nimby crossbow.

And Joking aside, make sure she is proficient at whatever weapon you do get her. The last thing our wildlife needs is another hunter out flinging arrows, bolts or bullets without a clue as to what they are doing.

Yes, those are both good points.. Crossbows have became legal for any and all in PA, and I know there are other who have followed suit..

Right now the only she shoots is a camera haha. All good points.... Does anyone make a crossbow tailored for women? I know pse, Mathews and bear all make bows for a gal

i stopped by to say this too. last i remember, it was only legal to hunt with a crossbow if you are disabled (oklahoma).

and i believe it was within the last 15 years that they began allowing disabled hunters to use crossbows...

Crossbows are legal for everyone during bow season here in Michigan, which is lame IMO.

i think there was a crossbow 'thing' in the news about them being 'silenced weapons'. so them they became illegal in some way or another...i could have my history wrong...
