Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes?
Going coyote hunting next weekend, anyone having any luck? The property I'm going on is loaded and I have a nice blind already there, hoping I can get at least one.

Re: Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes?
I've gotten a few in the past. Be patient and practice your calling ahead of time. Make sure you always pay attention after you bag one. Several times I've shot a small one and it brought out the momma yote' within a couple minutes.

If I do we'll enough this coming week end another hunt should follow the following week end, or soon there after on another property. I use a simple turkey call, I've gotten good results with it.

Good luck! Turkey call should get the job done. Might have to try that one myself. Ive been using a fancy wounded rabbit call thats worked good for me. Usually get 2 or 3 yotes per trip.

I just practiced on my pet turkeys first. The Tom went at anything so I ignored his results and focus more on bringing in the hens. They're pretty smart ill give them that.....I like the turkey call because you can change n the fly what sound your making and pitch. I'm Gina try to make a hen deke and try that out too

I do quite a bit of coyote hunting here in WA. We use mainly wounded rabbit and fawn in distress and throw in a howl everyone in a wile. We get lots of dogs. Never needed a blind just full camo and sit up against some brush. Having a decoy helps a lot! Some times they will hold up at like 600 yards but if you have a decoy as soon as they see it they come on a full sprint and you can get them with the shit gun.
What gun are you using?

Re: Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes?
yeah, it's wierd, you can call for 3 seconds and kill one and then they'll keep showing up.
then the next hunt you'll call up just one at about 300 yards.
another wierd thing you can do is watch them trot, and when they get to a clearing just make a loud short sound with your voice (like 'Hey!' or 'Hup!'). almost every time they will stop, look at you, and turn broadside for an easy still broad target.

Does anyone eat the coyotes? I personally don't kill anything I don't plan to eat. Although I have been raised to shoot coyotes,I just never really try to haha

Re: Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes?
we shoot coyotes so that they don't eat the livestock. and our farm dogs. that's the only reason.
----------
lemme correct that - i've never heard of coyotes bothering cattle much except to eat the afterbirth, but they'll go for goats, sheep, piglets...and cute little furry pets lol!

Re: Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes?
I will be going out and doing trying to get some yotes this year as well.
Eric, you don't eat coyotes, they are a predator and go after form stock and deer fawns. They are hunted for the same prairie dogs and such.

our neighbors have them take calves before they even hit the ground after especially rough winters. Now the wolves have moved in too so you have to make sure it's a coyote in your scope and not a wolf

aw man, that's too bad.
there are enough city folk who move out here and let their city pets run loose, then get eaten, they seem to keep the coyotes happy.
well if they'd go after a new calf after a hard winter, i wonder if they would take a child, like a toddler that figured out how to get out of the house...

Same for me, except its goats, turkeys and chickens. The quail we have we just repopulate with a new hatch. Family turned our farm into a nature reserve.....
