Straps are safer for sure. Especially if your one of those guys that doesn't like to get the slack out of the strap. Chains, will snap that way. Straps might too, but they're less dangerous. You can find em anywhere, Wal-Mart, O'reillys, Autozone, if ya have one, or all over the internet. The price depends on the length and overall strength.

Honestly, I'm not too familiar with brands. Any Nylon tow strap with a good weight limit is good. And IMHO, and with my past experiences, I think the straps without hooks, are better. Usually the hooks weaken and will break eventually.

ive got a tractor supply store one and its lasted for about 4 years of pulling and i take good care of it. like washing it with laundry soap and a good brush and let it air dry. procomp is good. if you do use a chain or cable make sure you have a good heavy blanket to set over it incase of a break it will slow it down a good bit. use a sadel blaket they are thick and heavy enough to handle the stress of the snap or break. normally chains wont be violent because the links are welded so they will just break and shatter or pull apart but if a cable breaks then you will have something to worry about. when you pull and you have strap, chain, cable PLEASE use common sense make sure everyone is out of the way and start by pulling slowly. ok so when you are chosing a strap make sure you get one that is rated over your trucks for example my truck weight about 5,000 pounds so that means my strap should be rated for 10,000 pounds and its all on what you prefer weither hooks or loops i like to have hooks easier to hook up to tow hooks or trailer recivers or whatever it maybe

ok so a strap isnt going to be violent its just gonna kinda fall and thats about it and chain is going to be like a gernade and fragments CAN fly everywhere ive seen both like when a link pulls apart and when it just kinda explodes. next 20,000 pounds might be a much unless your pulling duallies or 2500s or some big trucks. but hey if you wanna go big then by all means its not going to affect anything just some more weight to haul around in your truck

you can do alot with a 10,000 pound strap i pulled cars and trucks with it and never had a problem with mine. basic care for the strap goes along way! look at it like this(not tryin to sway what you want) lets say your truck is like mine a 3.slow you WONT produce enough power to break a 10k strap. now if your going to be doing truck pulls like axle to axle pulls for fun yea id go with the 20k one. price wise i paid about 45bucks for my strap and not so sure but you are going to be dropin about 80+ for a 20k one. in the end anything over 10k will work just fine and the next thing is your driving skills if your good and know your truck very well you will be find. so to answer your question if your pulling the same amount of weight with both a 10k and a 20k strap the same amount of stress is going to be the same nothing changes if your pulling out a 5k truck lets says your going to need atleast another 1k to break him loose so only 6k will only be needed and only 6k will be on stress on both the 10k and 20k straps

i would be weary to be a strap online you get what you pay for and yes the longer the better! it gives you a bit more options when your pulling someone out and it helps you get a bit better traction so you wont have to get near the truck that got stuck
