Probably like 40km an hour. He was braking when it happened.

Going to get the repair estimate at one of the local Ford dealerships soon. Also considering just pocketing the insurance cheque and getting some new winter tires and rims. The damage doesn't bother me very much, but I know it will be expensive for a new metal bumper, tailgate, and spray-liner (not to mention labor).

I forgot that you lived in Canada but holy cow on the price. It is a dent vs. being keyed or hail damage that is all over. Honestly, I would live with it. Also, I do not know how insurance is handled where you live, but with my insurance here and according to Ohio law, a driver is able to get up to 3 estimates and choose the shop of his/her choice. Last, the insurance company usually cuts the check to the policyholder and not the bodyshop. I would sit on the cash, and think long and hard before spending that money. Either way, it is your choice, and good luck.

^^ nah man. Get your truck fixed. Take pride in why you drive. Don't be the guy that has a beat up car just to scam the insurance.
