Default Any wild land fire fighters out there? (municipal firefighters feel free to chime in)

Looking to see if there any wild land fire fighters out there to bounce questions off of. Currently an emt and college student looking to be a fire fighter medic. CalFire (I live in SoCal) I know hires seasonals but it's crazy hard to get in now a days. Is us forestry just as hard??? Thanks

Out here you can not get hired on a municipal department without being a firefighter medic

Is Florida pretty packed with EMTs? Out here we are dime a dozen slave labor.

Yeah it's bad. I applied for a position that 250 people applied for only 2 open spots.

The best thing to do to get a paid firefighter job is to volunteer I don't know how California works besides having a lot of paid positions but in Missouri we have a lot of volunteer departments.. I've been on my department for a year. I also just started paramedic class. I work at the local hospital in the Er and that is the best thing that helps me..

I've applied for two volunteer departments. Out here you can get hired as a lifeguard as an emt and have the hours count for the medic internship.

Ideally I'd like to work as an er tech prior the internship just for the medical experience.

Until I had to move for work 2 years ago, I was volunteer ff and emt for 12 years. Started when I was 17. I was a LT, EMS coordinator, radio and IT officer, driver, pump operator, FF2, Hazmat Ops, a dispatcher, and I ran the junior/explorer program for the last 8 years. I miss it dearly.

It's Nice, but more responsibility. You are technically an "ALS" unit if you have an Advance or the older Intermediate license and you are on the call with another Advance/Intermediate or Basic.

It gets your feet wet for medic school or so I am told. I am waiting until I go though rookie school before I get to medic.

I have had a the license for a year and a half and I started off as a volly (Worked a few shifts for the rescue squad at my station but the Fire side is still considered Volunteer) when I was 18 just about to get out of high school, bout to turn 20 in a month tomorrow.

How do you like cal fire? I'm looking to applying for this coming seasonal positions. I've heard it's impossible to get on here in San Diego, so I'm going to apply for a lot of the northern divisions, basically Fresno and above. I'll try for riverside but I heard that is hard than San Diego's division.

It sounds
Ike a good idea when I looked at it a while back.
