Desiging a 2014 Ford Ranger!!!
Hey ya'll,
I am getting back into CAD drafting and design (Had several classes in college before I switched area of study). I not by any means professional but I have kept it as a hobby and recently decided to give it a go after I ordered another drafting and CAD design program.
I have a motorcycle project I am going to be starting (friend of mine wants me to design a custom motorcycle - sort of a theme bike) and I thought it would be fun to design a "NEW 2014 Ford Ranger".
What I would like you guys to do is come up with innovative and unique design ideas that I can incorporate into the design.
Keep in mind that I haven't used the newer programs yet so it will take me a while to get it going but in the mean time you guys could start with ideas.
Dimensions and or pictures would be nice. Now I know you guys aren't designers so dimensions don't have to be perfect. I can figure that out as I go.

Re: Desiging a 2014 Ford Ranger!!!
4 wheels and tires, a bed, and a cab would be a good start.

4 real doors would be good to see a rendering of. take an explorer sport trac (01-05 when they were based off the ranger frame) and tweak the design to make it look more like a ranger.

Ok, this is what I was getting at.
I had that thought also - its gotta be a 4 door like the super crew F-150. As far as the interior of the cab, I was thinking making it bigger - not as big as the F-150 but large enough that guys that are around the 6ft mark can be comfortable.

it'd be cool to see a crew cab ranger like you are talking about with a 6ft vs 7ft bed.

Re: Desiging a 2014 Ford Ranger!!!
double din in the dash with ford sync, nicer climate controls, bucket seats with a full console up to the dash, shifter on the center console, and put an oh shit handle on the roof instead of on the damn a-pillar.

Re: Desiging a 2014 Ford Ranger!!!
if its a crew cab a 6ft bed is a must, but I wouldnt mind a 4ft bed model either.
8v is a must too.

I was thinking about a 6.5 ft bed like the newer Silverado Ext cabs. My Dad had one and the bed size would be about perfect for a Ranger.

doyouquaxu, that was already in my head because I have other vehicles with dual zone climate controls and it is so nice to have control of your own temp - especially in the extreme heat and cold!!!
Shifter on the console is also a definite because I can't hardly shift my truck now because of the column shift.

I was thinking about it would probably have the Eco-Boost (like the fiddy's have). Biggest reason is fuel economy and I was thinking that if designed it using weight saving materials such that I could get the weight down into the new Ford Explorer range, the truck could potentially get into the 23-25 range.
I do know that I was told the Explore when drove decent - keeping your foot out of it, will knock 23-24-ish - that is with a 3.16 gear if I remember right. Now I know that most would probably go up in gear ratio, but I think that the gearing with a 6-speed would be ideal for gas mileage - something the Rangers desperately needed and NEVER got. Besides with the 420 FT. TQ, pulling and moderate off-roading would be just fine!!!!
Keep it coming guys.
Now I know what you all are saying
