Default help with recharging ford focus A/C

ok, so my sisters focus has stopped blowing cold air. she wants me to recharge it for her.

i told her there is a leak, but she is fine with it being a short term fix.

so its a 2006 focus 4 door with a 2.0L 4 cyl. automatic trans.

i first have to say ford is crazy for putting the low pressure connection in the wheel well. you have to take the tire and fender liner out to get to it.

so i got a recharge kit with the tube the has a quick connect for the car side, and a gauge on the other. so i go by the instructions 100%. so the R134-a can is connected to the tube, i then connect it to the low pressure place. at this point the can has been punctured and the a/c is on full blast. so it is suppose to start pulling the r134-a into the system and start to recharge it. but it does not. i site there for the 15 min. and do the 12 o clock to 3 o clock thing and nothing ever leaves the can.

i know the can is punctured, and i know the compressor is clicking on.

what am i missing?

on a side note, the gauge that reads the pressure level worked when it was reading the pressure with no can, but after trying to recharge the car the needle is pegged all the way around the face and will not move.

thanks for any help!

i had about the same thing happen when i tried to use one of those cheap recharge kits for my truck, didin't work worth a damn. managed to have a co-worker do it at the shop i work at, used a real a/c guage set. worked great, stil icel cold after 2+ months.

you're probibly best off having it charged at a shop

glad to hear you were able to get you're money back.

if you wind up taking it to a shop to have it charged, you may be able to have the mechanic run some dye through the system to help find where it may be leaking.

Your better shops will search for the leak using a leak detector.
