I for one am glad the new ranger is not here. It looks like ass. I take pride in knowing I have a damn good looking truck and not some yuppy mobile.

Not to bite your head off....
but to say it is "an all around better truck" is an Opinion... one based on the driver and what the driver needs and wants....and how it fits his/her lifestyle.
Its like saying "this seat is un-comfortable" that is an opinion, and EVEN if you could get a hundred people to say the same thing, then you just have a hundred "opinions", because it just takes one to say it "is comfortable" to prove that its an opinion.
Such terms as "better" and "comfortable" are feelings/emotions. To state a FACT, you would have to simply say "the f-150 is a bigger truck" because size/mass is a determined FACT.
Thus you can't say that Because the F150 is Bigger that it makes it BETTER.... that doesn't make sense.

The issue on the mileage... so what if they get the same mileage..... if my ranger gets the same mileage, of lets say a Ford Mustang... should that just mean that i should go and get the mustang??

If the F-150 and the Ranger get the same mileage, u can then look at it this way: With the F-150 you get 18mpg (estimated guess) and the Ranger you get 18mpg, you would ASSUME that getting the F-150 is the best choice, it's bigger, more power, etc...
But maybe for some, bigger isn't Better, more power isn't better...

Lets factor in the INSURANCE COST.
The F-150 being bigger and more expensive and with a larger engine, is going to cost more to INSURE (and I'm sure more to maintain)/ Of course there are alot of other factors that affect insurance costs, like where you live, age, even gender, driving record, and so forth. BUT the logic is that if one thing is bigger and is worth more, then it must be more to insure.

I drive less than 10K miles a year.... i have a small garage (no way an f150 is going to fit in it!)
I live like 3 blocks from work.
The most i ever tow/haul is my flat bed with my two atvs.
90% of the time, its just ME in the truck... so a large truck with all that extra room, would be a waste for me.

If I got an F-150, i would have to build a bigger garage... more money... or it would have to sit out all the time and really get beaten by the snowy minnesota winters, so more wear and tear there.

But really, these conversations have been done time and time again, Ranger vs F150, Ranger being Discontinued (In the USA), and the whole small truck market...

Obviously the small truck market is still there.... you say you "think its dying", i won't disagree, but i do think it's leveling off... but think about all those high school kids just getting licenses, with little money, the Ranger (or other small truck) is a good option over a huge spendy truck.
They make good work and fleet trucks, they make good off-road fun trucks, they make good grocery getters, they make good toy/atv haulers, etc... the list goes on and on.
If the market wasn't there, Toyota, Nissan, Dodge, Mazda, GM/Chevy, they all would drop their small truck lines. Ford was just STUPID when they decided to. They figured all the Ford people would just stay loyal to the Ford brand and just go buy an F150, but they will see, those Ford people will turn to the other brands.
What Ford should have done was just limit/cut production of the Ranger.
The auto market gets flooded with millions of vehicles coming off the assembly lines, just to sit in a lot till they get bought by a dealership, where they will sit even longer til a consumer comes.
The market is way flooded, there are a ton of Rangers out there..... no need to go buy a brand new one, when there are still ones less than 5 years old that are still brand new, with little to no miles on them.
And look at this forum... there are tons of old old rangers still on the road.. and even some newer ones like mine, where people have put in new/rebuilt motors, just to keep their trucks on the road, all instead of biting the bullet and buying a brand new one..

If you make a product that last for a long time, or that people are willing to fix and keep running, then it will be a long time before they come back and buy a NEW ONE. But be assured, when the time comes, they will have been satisfied with their truck that they will want to buy another one.
But if you make a product that DOESN'T LAST and that people can't or aren't willing to try to fix and keep running, then the consumer will obviously not buy that product again.

I have to say, I have no need for an F-150. The only way I would have one, would be if I did not have the expy and the f-150 was a crew cab, a family ride.

The ranger has always served my needs.

Ford doesn't care, they want you to buy an F150.

The jeep truck could look mean if some one would lift it and throw some led lights on it but that's about it

I dont understand this thing about want a new ranger? Yeah sure it would be nice to a have a more refined, better riding, and more modern truck, but would it make the ranger better then the 2001-2011 era? (which is the modern to date) I dont think so, lets not forget what the ranger's reputation is based on, low cost motoring. Maybe not on fuel but definitely in terms of simplicity, purchase price and reliability. Most of trucks are workhorses, they work in any reasonable situation and even some unreasonable situation. I wouldnt want SatNav, back up cameras, high tech auto transmission and a direct injection cylinder deactivation twin turbo small displacement engine to lug a vehicle around. This technologie is still relatively new and unproven in terms of long term. Most our engines, electronics and even panels have been around for over a decade with little problems.

I keep track of various automotive recalls on all car companies, and for the most they are things that are relatively new to a model, whether the door hinges were revised and changed, or maybe it has MyTouch or GPS or 12 airbags, these are all things that yes are nice to have and make motoring safer and easier but do we need all that stuff?

No....

we have

Maps
Adequate mirrors (2006-2011)
extra airbags (2010-2011)
traction control, stability control
reliable engines proven engines 4L OHV, 4L SOHC 2004+ (after the timing chain tensioners were fixed) and a lot of 3L have proven their worth. I dont even hear a lot of issues with the 2.3L duratec and even the old 2.5L Lima.

Would it be nice to have more power and more fuel economy, yes of course, but at the cost or reliability? No thanks, I rather tank once a month instead of tank once every 2 months and have the knowledge and comfort that my ranger should be reliable because it is low tech and old school. I would never trade that off for any unnecessary techno gizmos that will have me live at a Ford dealership. Did most of us forget how shitty Ford tech service is. Would I be comfortable paying $30,000 for a high tech truck and leave it at ford????? No way, but that might be the case if its full of Ford specified technology.

Those who know what a ranger stands for, knows that the Ranger we had up 2011 could have been better but would we trade it in on a modern car like complex truck?

I dont think so... lets stick to the ranger roots and enjoy what we have. The way I see it. Ford kept the mustang alive since 1964. Dodge killed off the Challenger and Charger in the 70s since Dodge new that keeping those cars going would infringe what the Challenger and Charger represented. Meanwhile ford kept the mustang alive and made it softer, and not as enjoyable and at some point we ended with the Mustang II. I think I'll keep my ranger long before I'll ever buy anything Ford might create to replace the Ranger. Would you be seen in a RangerII?

Those things are for people who don't need a truck.

These people where i live convert jeeps into trucks:

And we can still have a new ranger. And keep say the 4.0 but refine it to make better power and fuel economy. As for the other shit just don't get it as an option

Its not really a big deal. I mean, the 2011 ranger will be around well into 2030-2050.
