this, one of my college buddies had a 2003 interceptor and on 2 lane blacktops hated how people would suddenly go to the speed limit or even slower

as long as they are near the speed limit, this isn't an issue. unlike most guys my age (I'm 21) i drive like grandma.

One of the other things is I have been re-ended 4 times in my truck. Maybe in this people will keep their distance. haha

Yes, and I plan on doing so. I can easily tell which ones are cops and which ones are civilians, so I rarely ever stop doing what I'm doing whenever one is around.

My father in law bought an old squad Crown Vic and hasn't had many issues with it. The worst thing on these cars is the hours vs miles ratio... if you were to equalize it to normal vehicles it would probably be 3x the miles. The a/c finally gave out on his car this spring.

Yeah dude I say if it's a nice one go for it. They DO sometimes have upgraded brakes but I know for sure they have stiffer suspension.

Try and get one from an agency that issued "take home" vehicles. You'll find that those cars are in much better condition than "pool cars". Expect all of them to have many holes drilled inside and out. If you can find a detective's car, it'll probably have fewer holes than a regular patrol vehicle.

Stick with Crown Vics, and avoid the temptation to purchase a FWD police car (Dodge Intrepid, Chevy Impala). FWD cars do not handle police service very well, and have lots of mechanical issues.

its a crown vic or no cop car. Im one of the most biased pricks when it comes to cars. It has to be a ford.

i talked to the seller some. It was a medical examiners personal car, not a police crusier. The reason they sold it was the department suffered from budget cuts and the department was shortened and he lost his personal ride

Well if that's true, then that would be a great car. All the same maintenance but without the beat downs

If you can find one a city used for soley administrative duties such as building inspector etc, I am sure they are far less beat upon.
Not sure about the Crown Vics, but the Caprice 9C1 squad cars also had additional body mounts among the other heavy duty upgrades.

I work security and we use 2008 Ford Escapes, and my best advice would be not to buy used police/security vehicles. Mainly because they aren't being used how vehicles were designed to run. Most of the time they spend long periods idling and at very low speeds. I've been on ride-alongs and seen plenty of police cars that have "check engine lights" on. As for the Escapes we use? They have about 60k on them and have to be put in the shop about every 3 weeks because one thing or another is wrong with them.

Personally I would never buy a used cruiser unless the price was too good to pass up...

I probably wouldn't either, just went by the local auto body shop and there was already a new charger smashed sitting there. So from the start they get beat

buy a car from highway patrol. the miles on the car you mentioned on the first page may be low, but it's probably been sitting idling for hours upon hours while the cop waits for a call or is eating. HP cars may have higher miles, but a lot less time spent idle.

+1

And it likely will not have the obligatory hole in the driver's left seat bolster, where the duty belts rub as the officers get in and out.
