The Ranger has good reliability and a great MPG for it's class, but then again they have not changed this car for a good 10 Years. But, you can get a good deal on it.

um, i say domestic rigs in any and all cases... thats my preference cause i hate working on foreign cars. they never seem to run "right" after they are tinkered on whether its a "professional" or "home" job.

I'll play the devil's advocate and say get a Toyota. I know it's a Ranger site, and for the purpose my truck is for, I wouldn't have anything else, I love my truck, but for a daily driver and practical standpoint I have been swayed to Toyota through owning my Tundra. The reliability and quality that goes into these vehicles is amazing, and if you take care of them they will outlast most "domestics." And yeah, some of the money is going overseas, BUT, most of Toyota's products are built and/or assembled in the U.S. now. I'm all about buying American, but until our domestic companies start putting out superior products (that we all know they are capable of doing by now), I'll buy a 'yota. Hate me if you want to!

if i had to do it again i would probably build a tacoma to tell ya the truth..
BUT i love that my truck is original and very unique. people give me props everywhere i go, built tacos are getting to be like jeeps and look the same.

it all depends on your price range. expect to pay double for a tacoma (used). You can get a 97 ranger for $2-3000 and a 97 tacoma for literally double that if not more. To me id buy the ranger because of the price and its ok on reliability from what ive seen, but if you want to pay more and know for a fact your buying something bullet proof then i would go for the tacoma any day..
If your buying new and you just want to get a base model, id go with the tacoma if the price is right mr. bob barker

true, they are both great trucks but the tacoma's is just fancier and thousands more $$$, while the ford is cheap and simple (therefore quite reliable)
go with the ford and buy domestic.
