first, 98% of these cars are on coilovers and static slam. They DO NOT cut springs or break out the welder. The wheels are bought with a lot of math behind them and calculations on how much room there is in the fender, how much my clearance there is on control arms, and how much back spacing will fit. We have been doing this for ages with muscle cars and when they don't "fit" new axles were purchased and tubs were added.

The stretched tires and camber came from a styling in Europe as they have regulations on tire side for passenger vehicles for making them legal on the road. When someone wanted a much wider wheel for more lip or more concave they would need still need to meet the regulations with their tires. Thus the stretching became common and if you look at some European production cars this "fad" is a very common place thing. The "safety" factor is 100% based on how obnoxious or over the top you wish to be.

my 6 has a 215/45/17 on a 8.5" wide wheel. this is considered a "stretch" and is what I daily drive everyday. my coilovers are dialed in to the top of the tire and the camber is dialed in so that the tires wear evenly for my 25 miles a day to and from work. my wife's G had 9.5" wide wheels with a 245/45/18 and that is considered a "stretch" for the tire, but without the stupid "Poke" of the rim lip stretching beyond the sidewall.

my brother's mach 1 on the other hand has 265/40(?)/17 on a 8" wide wheel + 25mm(1") spacers and this is considered "stanced" because the fender well is full and no fender well gap. His tires are "oversized" for the width of the wheel and cause them to balloon slightly and make the tires flush with the fenders.

those same guys who you are joking about are the same ones who question why you need a huge lift on your truck..... as if you have to compensate for some other department you are lacking in. Personally I enjoy automobiles too much to flat out call an entire style wrong, just some are trying too hard.... and those who try too hard are the ones that amuse those who are even apart of that community.

Ps anyone wanna explain how stretched tires are "for drifting"....... I could go on a rant about how incorrect that is if you like.

X2 but don't forget the chocolate syrup and midgets... So what a lot of people are saying is that bagged minitrucks are worthless as well, they generally have a crap load of camber and tires that tuck into their fenders

I take it punctuation is unnecessary too?

Define better? Not a huge Celica fan short of the all-trac line and think that doing anything to them is pretty much an exercise in futility.

Trucks that require fold out ladders seem unnecessary to some, as do trucks that cut holes in their beds to slam their truck with bags. Some might even call the trucks that drag their ass and add metal bars under them to shoot sparks reckless and a danger to all those who are on the road.

It is all what you are into, and what you enjoy. the Welfare crack was pretty insulting as a lot of the people who I know who are very into this style are service men. They have come back from serving abroad and enjoyed the styling from over seas and brought it back home. Not sure how you buy expensive (like stupid expensive in a lot of cases) wheels with WIC checks anyway.....

Bottom line, they are enjoying it and as far I know doing custom things with your auto is all about what YOU like. Fuck the haters.....

I agree with flipper. I couldn't post earlier but I saw the ignorant comments and flipper beat me to what I was gonna say and then some.

I don't agree with the massive stretch and the insane camber but some of the cars in this thread and other automotive enthusiast sites I would rock as a second vehicle or as a DD if I didn't have a ranger.
I was on the vortex and had a beater golf I really wanted to do up on bags w/ proper camber and a VR6T swap.
