Default Vehicle shopping: Certified Pre-Owned vs not

Well, I'm sort of truck shopping. Thinking about a newer F150. Does anyone have any input whether its worthwhile to find a truck that is Certified Pre Owned by Ford, therefor extending the powertrain warranty to 100k miles, etc..

CPO is definitely worth considering. With CPO its going to be a like new vehicle.
Tires are going to be all matching, correct size and at least 6/32" of tread. Brakes are going to have at least 6mm of pad left. Body damage will be minimal if any at all. Interior will be perfect. No pieces can be missing at all. Everything will function as it should.

There's definitely value to certified pre-owned but there's cost associated to it, the certified vehicle will naturally be more expensive.

So if you find a cheaper similar vehicle should you turn it down? No, you should look to see how the prices vary between the two.

I agree with Tom.

Just shop around. My buddy got a certified RAV4 and it's been back to the shop countless times. Most of the stuff was covered under a warranty, but for some reason rentals/loaners aren't covered.

He got it with like 65-75k on it. He's had TPMS issues, multiple abs sensor issue that disables the ABS ( with 2 kids under 2 in it everyday ), MAF problem, COP just got replaced, etc...

We got my wife an Escape with 170k on it. '03 V-6 4X4. It was a well maintained state vehicle basically it's whole life. The alternator just went out past 180k and I've replaced the EGR. Maybe $600 in with $475 of it being the alt.

Then, there's my Escape. '01 V-6 4X4 with premium package. Leather etc...mine had a rear end accident. No airbags, no major damage, etc. It'll be under $400 for a rear gate and bumper.

The car drives and operates 100%. All glass, lights, trim intact. It had just under 97k original miles on it.

I paid $3,750.

Shop around

Yeah, I am not sure yet. The Ranger that I have has been somewhat of a money pit. It was cheap to buy, but I have paid more in the last 15 months on parts than I have on the loan. Then again, I'm pretty reluctant to go out and buy a $25k truck.

I am looking at 2011-2013 F150 Crew cab FX4 models. I have not done a test drive between the 5.0 and Ecoboost, so so far I have no preference. The thought is, why not search a little harder, or shop a little more, and see if I can't find a truck that fits my criteria (mileage, options, price, etc), and get one that is Ford Certified Pre Owned. It would extend the powertrain warranty to 100k. Which would be roughly 3-4 years of driving depending on how much I drive my summertime vehicle.
