I work in renewable energy field.
I'm a High BTU Gas Plant Operations Tech
We take Landfill Gas (LFG) and turn it into pipeline quality methane (CH4).
Basically, almost everything that goes into a landfill breaks down and makes some sort of reaction, mostly CH4 and CO2, some other crap too.
We drill and drop a perforated pipe into the hole and hook it up to a vacuum source,
Bring into a plant scrubber it, compressor it several times while scrubbing off liquid between compressing. Treat it for H2S,
Then through a series of vessels with solvents at various temps and pressure drops, we absorber 98-99% of the CO2 and O2 and various other nasty gases.
Then basically dry gas and pump into a pipeline at 93-97% CH4.
Granted there is a lot more to this system, but its the fast explanation, lol.
If I remember I'll get a pic of what a high BTU flame looks like when being burned off for operational issues

I'm an engineer and machinist. I work in a prototype shop. We can go from an idea to design to parts, assembly, testing, and revising. From inception to finished product. On occasion, we do a few small production runs for good customers. I've been in the manufacturing business since I was 19.

I have already built my own house as part of a program I am in.
Group of us that built it..all from highschools in my area.
Doin' some roofin..
I loved every minute of it..until the finish part, even then I enjoyed it, better then being in class. If you want to see anymore pictures, as I know a lot of people in the past have asked me for some(not from here, but when I mention it they want to see some)

Plan is to do that for a living, owning my own business. Then keep automotive and welding as my hobby, as well as motorsports.

Hopefully the housing market gets better for you when you graduate or for that matter get into the trades.. Now i cant speak for everywhere in the country but up here i have never been this slow with work. It has been getting worse and worse every year. If there is any advice I can give you is Work for a comapany and get on Payroll. I made the mistake of starting my own carpentry company straight out of highschool. Granted being self employed is nice and all but A check everyweek is alot better than 1 check a month. And if work gets slow You can get Unemployment check, i dont get a unemployment check i just sit at home and do more Bids..
Forgot to add. MY highschool has been doing the same thing with buidling homes for the community. Although the homes that get built are sold and portions of the profit goes back to the program.. School will be finishing there 20th year of the program this year
