Re: **Official Hunting & Fishing Thread**
This thread is making me hungry.....very hungry....
I have never hunted or fished much but would like to. Here is hoping a fellow NC'er reads this and wants to take a newbie! Most of my fishing experience was on my boss's boat in the intercoastal waterway. Never caught much but always had a good time. As far as hunting, went still hunting for deer at the end of 07 with a former co-worker. Only saw one doe and she was delicious.
Got this a few years ago and barely cracked the binding. I would like to fix that.

Re: **Official Hunting & Fishing Thread**
All i hunt for is mushrooms. Fall and spring here in MO. My 3 daughters all hunt deer, squirrel, turkey, rabbit you name it Plus they fish, gig, trap and any other means of killin a animal. I dont have to kill anything anymore and my freezers are full of meat. I got burnt out on it, killed more critters by 30 then most ever will.

Caught this Largemouth last Thursday, and another nice one at a local reservoir Saturday morning.
However last few years I really have had the Smallmouth bug, still a little early for good Smallmouth action around here. It's right around the corner as soon as the ware warms up a little but.

Re: **Official Hunting & Fishing Thread**
what does everyone use for bass? im not doing good at my local lakes (nothing!) and i am about to try a different lake when it opens up...apparently the road is "slippery" we dont have snow!
----------
i usually use a spinner bait with willow blades but even that isnt working right now
i took dixie boysles advice last time i went, didnt catch anything but ill try again he recommended a certain kind of worm, idr what its called off the top of my head though

I prefer topwater frog baits and poppers in tall weeds and lilly pads. In deeper water, structures, edges of weed beds and boat ramps I use a berkley minnow or stick bait.

Go with the gulp minnow in the link. I use a LIGHT pole, casts it far with no weights. Gently twitch occasionally and let it sink until almost the bottom. Take your time getting it back to the boat. You will feel a light tug first and they'll let go. They'll be back in about 2 twitches.

I fish with them all the time too, but its weird how you have to work these. I bagged 100+ bass last year after perfecting this technique. Even on days when NOBODY caught anything. I just got a Berkley Amp light action and caught my first few fish on it today. love it
----------
They act weird with those too. I have to put a new one on after a couple fish hit it because they'll chew the tails off
