Default Would be a good choice to buy a Ford Ranger instead a Nissan Pickup?

I would like to buy a pickup Ford Ranger ExtraCab (1992-1996), but some people say that the performance of this vehicle is poor because often requires to be repared (brakes down easily)...
They say a Nissan KingCab would be a better choice, because the cheaper maintence and almost never brakes down. What is your opinion?

There's no reliability advantage with a Nissan. Many Nissan trucks from that era have electrical issues. Also, the engines use timing belts and are interference engines. That means if the belt breaks, the valves will probably hit the pistons, doing a lot of damage.

Rangers from that era are no less reliable than any other 13-17 year old truck. The 2.3 engine uses a timing belt, but the engine is non-interference, so if the belt breaks you just put a new one on. The A4LD automatic transmission used through the 1994 model year wasn't the most reliable, but the 4R and 5R transmissions used from 1995 on are much better. The M5OD manual is a great transmission though.

I actually was given a Fronteir as a rental while my Ranger was in a Geico repair shop in a Nissan dealership. It had a 4.0 in it and the truck preformed well for the three days i had it. Very nice trucks inside and out but im still bias to my Ranger and Ford in general. Nothing beats the Ford power off the lot or in aftermarkent options.

Ford = Domestic
Nissan = Foreign

Price parts and go buy a Ford when you're done. =)

I love both rangers and nissans....I wouldnt buy a nissan truck over a ford though. Ford is usually a cheaper initial buy, and if somethign breaks, the parts are ALOT cheaper. Its up to you...but I wouldnt take one guy's opinion and run with it. Your buddy might have just got one that had been tore up from the getgo.

Has Nissan made the best selling compact pickup the last 50000 years running? It's all about the Ranger.....

I've driven both, worked on both, and only owned the ranger. That's not to say I didn't once want to own a hardbody extra cab, but price and bias won out leaving me with a wonderful ranger. Looking back, I'd have done the same thing all over again. Get what you like though, and have no regrets about it. Nissan can be a very durable vehicle.
