Default Biopsy scheduled...

Well It's been about a couple of weeks since I've been on here. I've quit smoking and I have a biospy scheduled for 3/14/12 which is this coming wednesday at UVA in Charlottesville,VA. This will determine what type of cancer that I have. For those whom want to quit smoking, I recomend using Nicoderm CQ nicotene patches. They really help in getting rid of withdrawl symptoms. I've not had a smoke in almost 2 days now. Going from nearly a pack and sometimes more a day to none is a feat to say the least. I'm already feeling alot better since I've stopped smoking alone.

too bad about the cancer. yep i had to really trick myself to stop smoking. i finally got to the point of not actually going in to buy a pack anymore. and i switched to beer and wine, so that helped.

you might start getting the Tar coughs after about a month of quitting, or Bronchial spasms. if you do go into the ER and get a breathing treatment it will help alot

check out the book- The Easy Way TO Quit Smoking- believe it or not it really helps win the mental battle. My lady made me read it and I was pretty pissed at the time cause it was my christmas present and all(chicks). Anyways it is an easy read I powered through it in one day just to shut her up. Figured I will read it and get her off my back and then just tell her it doesn't work. Week later it all sunk in and I just decided to quit. It is a cold turkey system but it helps get your brain to stop . first 3 days are the worst. After 10 days its hard to believe you ever smoked. I smoked for 18 years.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys. I'm using a public computer here in Charlottesville as we speak. I've already started the tar coughs and surprisingly they aint been that bad at all. My procedure starts tomorrow at 10: AM. So far the patches have been really good. This coming friday will be about a week since I've had a smoke. So far it aint been that hard to quit, but I've still been tempted though.

[QUOTE]/So far it aint been that hard to quit, but I've still been tempted though.
[QUOTE]I quit almost 3 years ago, and I, also, smoked a pack or more per day. The problem with any drug is that one temptation and you are back where you were. Personally, I am under the belief that it doesn't matter how you quit but that you quit. I actually quit for two years (after smoking for almost 7 years), but then, I made the mistake of starting again and smoked for another 5 before I quit for good. Believe me, there are plenty of times when I get tempted. I used the Nicoderm CQ patches the first time, and I, too, thought they worked well. However, you are still getting nicotine in your system. That is why there are stages for the patches. I only used Stage 1 for 6 weeks, or so. I bought the kit, but I felt I didn't need a refill. If I were still having urges, I could have taken Step 2 (a lower dose) for up to 6 weeks, and then I could have used Step 3. When I quit for good (again almost 3 years ago), I used the prescription Chantix, which is expensive. I think I paid $125 for 30 pills, but it is still cheaper than smoking. Anyway, good luck with everything, and I hope that you can post from time-to-time how well you are doing.

Thanks guys. The Biospy is completed. They seem to think that it's some kind of cartlidge cancer and is in the weaker stages but the biopsy should confirm it. The cancer is in my upper left thigh and it's the size of a football. The biopsy wasn't bad but I'm still extremely tender though. They had to give me more numbing mediction because they took too long between getting tissue samples. I'm not as tender as I was yesterday.

I know man. When a doctor takes a tape measure to both of your upper thighs and the left one is 8 inches bigger than your right is, then yeah there's a definite cause to worry. They're betting it's in the weaker stages based apon the fact that it hasn't spread anywhere else and the images that I supplied from 3 MRI's and 3 CT scans. My ruptured/herniated disc has pretty much taken a back seat to this problem. If they had decided to fix my back instead, then there was strong possibilty the cancer would've spread and eventually would kill me. The biospy is to determine what kind and what stage it's in so they can figure out how best to treat and hopefully eliminate the cancer.

I hear that , as I have similar back issues as well . It hurts but you learn to live with it and life goes on.

Good Luck Knightmare ....
