Default Re: Anyone ever think of a FRF meet?

In addition to my Ranger, I own a Mercury Marauder, and we have a national organization (MercuryMarauder.net) that is a loose confederation of members, much like folks here. We hold various regional meets throughout the year, and one large national meet, a four day event called "Marauderville." This year #10 will be held in Michigan the second week of September.

The Carolina Marauder guys hosted MV8 in 2008 in Charlotte, and we had just over 50 cars attend (not too bad a showing for a vehicle with just over 11,000 total production). Hosting a national meet isn't too tough if you set up a committee to do it. We had a six person team that divided up responsibility for handling logistics, activities and events, the car show, door and raffle prizes, shirts and dash plaques, sponsorships, etc. One of our events was a day at Charlotte Motor Speedway where we were did paced laps around the track; had a great time.

Attached area couple pics taken at CMS from that event. If there's enough interest, I say go for it, you'll have a great time getting together with other enthusiasts.

Why do people waste eachothers times instead of trying to figure out a way to make it work? Because frankly, I've seen a lot more people willing to jump on the bandwagon and say ''NO NO, your idea sucks, do it this way,'' ''no you're wrong''...or just the famous phrase of NO.

People post things to get incite on how to make things work. Not to be criticized by someone or to be ragged on like they have no idea of what they're doing. And that's exactly what I have done, I posted to gain incite on who would come, who would help, and what ideas would or could happen, and I do not care about what nay sayers think or what they have to say personally.

But all that asside, that would be a great idea, instead of making it like some parking lot meet like every other forum does, why not plan it around the idea of it being a vacation since that's what everyone views it as already. Like stated before, have it close to a landmark, or get a list of who all is going then choose a spot in-between that's a half way point for everyone and then decide from there on a vote of what's close that everyone would like to do and decide on what events to have.

Because yes, for a lot of people this will be expensive, say I have to drive from here to Idaho, or someone as stated before has to drive from New York to Kansas or even just Kentucky. So getting a group of things to do to make it enjoyable for everyone is the best rout instead of just having a backyard BBQ with a parking lot meet.

I'm glad to hear some people are interested, I figured my idea would of gotten shot down site-wide.

I think it's a great idea, and YES, it should be set up as a multi-day event that people can use as a vacation destination. That's all part of the event planning, coming up with a list of activities and venues that are of interest and fun for attendees. Here's some examples of things that have been at past Maraudervilles (I missed the first three, have been to all the rest):

MV4 - Orlando,FL: Drag racing and pig roast at Gainsville Dragway (site of the Gatornationals), car show and cruise-in at Old Town-Kissimmee, Arabian Nights dinner and show, half-time show and hot laps at Syrmna Raceway (late model and sportsmen oval track racing).

MV5- Hagerstown, MD: Drag racing at Mason-Dixon Dragway, car show and catered lunch at Washington County Regional Park, Cruise of Skyline Drive and tour of Laurel Caverns, lunch and riverboat cruise on the Potomac River (DC area), cruise the Capitol-downtown DC.

MV6- St Louis, MO: Budweiser Brewery Tour, Tour of the St. Louis Arch and Museum, Transportation and Train Museum Tour and BBQ Lunch, St. Louis Zoo, Night the Casino, Awards Banquet

MV7 - Indianapolis, IN: King Tut Exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum, lap at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Museum Tour. Cruise to Historic Metamora, drag racing at Muncie Dragway, catered lunch and car show, cruise downtown Indy.

MV8 - Charlotte, NC: Winery tours and cruise to Richard Childress Racing, BBQ lunch and tour of Wood Bros. Racing, laps at CMS, car wash at Bikinis Bar and Grill, drag racing at Jefferson-Pageland Dragway, tour of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, shopping and sightseeing in uptown Charlotte.

MV9 - Harrisburg, PA: Tour of the National Civil War Museum, Hershey's Chocolate World Tour, tour of the Railroad Museum of PA, train ride on the Strasburg Railroad, car show and tour of the Antique Automobile Club of America museum, evening banquet at the Hollywood Casino and Racetrack.

That's just an idea of some of the past activities at those events, plus there's always plenty of free time included to allow just hanging out, visiting, enjoying hotel amenities, etc. Freindships made at these events are priceless, and keep folks attending year after year.

I would definately like to go somewhere with a drag strip since its a more universal thing whether someone has a 4wd or a 2wd. And I'm sure with that in mind a lot of bragging could be settled there lol. But in all seriousness though I would really like to get an exact tally of who all would go and just choose a halfway point for all so its not biased because I don't want to say hey I'm going to take some reigns and then make the meeting pointsomewhere like indianaoplis which is only about 90 miles for me but probably more than 2 or 300 for everyone else. Because I would like to see this happen but since I'm new to the forum so to speak and don't have much clout it would be better that someone else or multiple people jump in and help or throw their two cents in
