I have become interested in amateur radio and just picked up a Wouxon KG-UVD1P HT and am looking into obtaining my license. I would really like to build up a nice mobile setup.

Ya! I was surprised at its quality as well as its great reviews, especially since it only cost me $120! Will get a tri-band ducky for it soon to expand it. Have you been into radio for long?

I've been reading alot lately to get prepared for the exam. My knowledge of electrical theory/components and such is pretty good, it's the atmosphere related knowledge I need to study such as propagation and wave behavior.

No offense to you guys but I HATE ham radios. Nothing against anyone in particular but there was one area of town that every time the neighbor would crank up his radio our customer would lose their service. Really irritating.

yea there are really inconsiderate people out there that run way more power and antenna than they need. i've checked with my neighbors and i've never caused interference on their electronics lol.

I am N9NPP and I'm good in the Callbook since 1991. A Callbook was a giant book of all callsigns in the USA. It looked like a big telephone book. There were two books one for USA and one for the rest of the world. When people on the radio asked you for your address to send you a QSL card you would reply "I'm good in the Callbook since ????" I started showing up in the 1991 book so if they had a 1989 book they wouldn't be able to look me up. The books came out every two years I think, maybe every year?? When CD's came around that put an end to the paper books. Now you can just go to QRZ.com. Here's me on my tower of power.

Interesting stories about how you can talk to people so far away from your driveway.

Know what else can do that? The internet.

Yes but there is a novelty to getting on the radio and talking to who knows who. You can get someone different every time.

It is also impossible to get trolled while on the radio to.
