Would it be bad of me to keep on with Advanced if I dont hear from Lowes in time and quit during my training to go to lowes if they have a better offer?

Could also lead to better job openings in the future with Lowes, even the one in the town where I live.

What everyone think about this plan?
It looks to me like Lowe's is the way to go. Most people (even students) need full-time, and it pretty much looks like everything is already falling into place. You even said that "Lowe's is in your hometown, close to school, full-time, etc." Unfortunately, retail jobs lose employees frequently, and noone wants to be the one to jerk somebody around. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and if the job doesn't work out, then go somewhere else. If you're really worried work Lowe's and Advance Auto and decide what is right for you. I wish I had your problem of deciding between two jobs.

It means he will get full-time hours but only during the winter months. Retail employees a lot of seasonal employees - esp. at XMAS between Thanksgiving and New Year's. However, spring and summer is buy also because of the many people doing home improvement projects, and I would imagine previous high school and college kids have seniority. So, Lowe's is currently hiring "winter seasonal full-time employees". I used to work for KMart, and they were the same way. There is still some loyalty based on seniority out there -- even in retail. Still, he gets a foot in the door, and if he works out well, they may still keep him in summer if he is interested.

Lowes is hiring spring and summer now actually. They're stocking out the grills and stuff, scoped it out before the interview lol. I think it would be a good start to get some experience. And like you said, I can get my foot in the door and get a better job with them after maybe.

At menards, the garden center is ran by the hardware dept. So, during winter months, they just work in that department.

I've got myself in somewhat of a pickle and wondering if anyone had any advice for me on what I should do?

I recently applied for several jobs in my area, and didn't even think I would get a call or anything. I lucked out and got an interview at Advanced Auto Parts and Lowes. Both seemed like really great places to work and had a lot of nice people.
I went to both interviews and got called back on both wanting me to work there. I cant decide what to do. I'll probably obviously go to where theyre offering me more money but I have no clue what Lowes is offering at all.

Advanced is offering 7.25 an hour for part time. The bad part is that they said my hours will vary. They average at about 20-25 hours a week but some weeks I may get lucky to get 12 when the store is slow. And I may even get sent home on some days. The great part is I love Advanced and its like 5 minutes away from where I live.

As for Lowes, All I know is theyre accepting me for a position in Lawn and Garden. I have no clue the pay, whether part or full time, or how many hours I can expect a week. I do think that lowes could offer more stability though and have about the same amount of hours a week, and rarely if ever have to send people home.

Now for the Pickle. Advanced is pursuing me hard, and want me to start training next week. Both Lowes and Advanced are currently in the Background check process and Lowes is supposed to call sometime this week to call me back to make a final offer to me for the position. Im leaning towards Lowes at the moment, but I am afraid the hours and pay may not be worth staying in town after class to wait for work and the 30 minute drive on weekends.

I want to wait and here from Lowes and what they are going to offer, but Advanced wants me to begin training next week.

Should I go on and go into my training at advanced, and then leave there if I like Lowes' offer better? I feel like a douche for leading one of them on lol

What would you do in my situation?

Thanks for any help and advice you have to give.
I'd go with Lowes because there's a good chance that it will be full time and they'll offer benefits such as health insurance and a retirement plan. Advanced Auto would be a good place to work, but there may be some weeks where you don't get enough hours and sometimes you may not get any hours and since you're part time, basically you won't get any benefits. I'd call Lowes back and ask some questions before making a decision if I was you because there's also a good chance that they'll be paying more than minimum wage as well.

This is the conclusion I've come to as well, would it be bad to like call and check in on the progress of my background check? They told me they was gonna get it started saturday lol

Nope it wouldn't be bad at all. It shows that you're interested in what they have to offer. Plus it gives you a chnace to find out about any benefits and what they're willing to pay. I've seen more applications get thrown away because the applicant didn't follow up.
