17, no job, need to pay a ticket. HELP?
I got a ticket last weekend for a California stop at a stop sign in the middle of nowhere at 2am. I didn't see any cars, so I slowed down from 30 to under 10 and just cruised through.
About 30 seconds later, I see red&blues fly around the corner and I pulled over.
blah blah blah, got a ticket, it's $175.
Help me figure out a way to get the money so my Dad doesn't have to find a place for my body?
Much appreciated

$175 for driving through a stop sign?! Damn, I'm glad I don't live in California.

Re: 17, no job, need to pay a ticket. HELP?
1st, things are computerized these days, and insurance companies have access to those records. Being under 18 and newly licensed, you are sure to have your rates go up. Also, are you sure that you don't have to go to court. In Ohio, all driving offenses under the age of 18 require a court visit.
2nd, welcome to life. Get a job, and accept responsibility. I can't have people paying my tickets. When I was younger, I never had others pay for my faults.
3rd, be a man and let your dad know because it would be worse to hide it from him. He will certainly find out when his insurance rates go up. Obviously, I assume that you are insured under your parents.

Re: 17, no job, need to pay a ticket. HELP?
Since you are 17 I assume you are on your parent's insurance? Your ticket may have consequences for their policy. I say tell them. If you try to hide it and are caught chances are your parents will me even more upset than if you told them. Not to mention if that ticket doesn't get paid by the date on it, you may have bigger problems.

I have a job set up at a car dealership as soon as I'm 18 in march.
My parents are the kind of people that if you make a mistake and correct it before they notice then when they find out they are okay with it.
I got a ticket at the end of March last year, and payed it with my remaining birthday money behind their backs, and they just told me to be more careful.

Re: 17, no job, need to pay a ticket. HELP?
fwiw I dont know your specific situation, but I do no everyone giving you crap for not having a job probably dont know the whole story. Im 17, also dont have a job, yet I drive.
I need to drive to get to school, both highschool and college. With these two, last semester I did not have a single free day in the week for a job. Couldn't get one if I wanted to! So no, I am not lazy nor a bum/slacker who just takes from my parents. I'd love a job to be honest, money = mod's! hahah but like I said its just not possible right now.
So on to the opp's inquiry.....first, im sure you have stuff laying around you can sell. Start with that. Second, maybe ask the neighbors or something if you can do yard work for cash? Simple stuff like mowing the lawn, or maybe even cleaning their pool can usually bring in some cash fairly quickly.
As a side note, definitely tell your parents. The circumstances, if correct, are not something to get crazy over. I know my parents would understand, its california we all do the california stop!
