Dodge Dart Returns....
Well guys and gals I don't know what it's going to look like like Dodge is bringing back the Dart in 2013. Here's the weblink that I found:
http://www.dodge.com/en/dart/
The reason I say I don't know what it's going to look like is because they did retro styling with the Challenger, but they really screwed the pooch on the Charger very badly. The only thing that comes close to the retro styling on the Chargers of today is the kool indent in the side of the body and that's basically it. If they retro styled it back to the 1969 body style, the Charger would've been a huge success more than it has been over the recent years. My only question is what on earth is Ford doing? No one has even a clue as to what Ford is doing including Ford themselves. Aparently they'd rather rest on their laurels rather than take a chance on anything.
----------
Well aparently they (chyrsler) have been smoking crack. I found an article from "Car and Driver" magazine that has a few photos and that is definately not a dodge dart and it doesn't even come close to the ones I grew up with either. It's apaerntly "Alfa-Romeo" based car which looks like a rolling pile of crap. Here's the article with photos that I found:

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
The most difficult part of making a new car is anticipating it's sales. For the Charger the only way to have decent sales was to make it a 4 door. The purists won't like it but the majority of their target customers did. Same for the Dart. Who's going to buy it? Probably 20-40 year old economy car buyers. Yea we'll probably see a turbo or supercharged version down the road but sales are everything. Ask you self why did the Camaro and Firebird go away in the early 2000s? Sales. Neither model sold more than 17,000 copies. Same for Tbird and Cougar. Same for Monte Carlo. And similar poor sales across the board for two door coupes.
I think the new Dart will be a cool compact car. Well have to wait and see.

Yeah we'll have to wait and see sure. But what I'm saying is that they could've done a little better than they did and still keep the old design a little bit and make it a 4 door. Poor sales is why alot of the car makers are in financial hot water as we speak because they rested on their laurels too much and didn't look towards the future enough. Ford done a smart business move to avoid taking a bail out by selling off alot of their hard assets to get the cash they need to survive. Plus they got rid of alot of models that really wasn't doing anything in terms of sales. The Mercury line couldn't be given away, the Crown Vic was basically only being bought by law enforcement agencies and older generations whom are gtting ready to retire. They just didn't have any options for the Ranger because everything that you can think of had been done to one in terms of mods and it really didn't have enough sales to keep it around. Granted they could've redesigned it years ago, but they didn't want to take that big of a risk without the sales to back it up. Yeah I already know big sales is in the automotive world and it can make or break a certain platform.

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
probaly wont even come with a v8, they will probaly put the 3.5L high output like they had in the chargers, i personally dont like the 2013 dart, its gonna turn out to be like the avenger.

That's what I'm thinking right there. I think they're going in the wrong direction myself concerning the name and design of it. In fact I bet it will basically be an Avenger or Charger underneath it's skin.
----------
Basically these car makers out there are taking another design of one of their cars and just changing the name of it, maybe they'll change the body sometimes, or a few interior pieces or accents and just call it something else when basically the same car underneath the skin. They really need to be more innovative and look towards the future a bit more and they also need to listen to the public a little bit more than they do and then go by what the sales figures are before making a decision.

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
GM made the same mistake when they brought the Nova name back and put it on a rebadged Toyota Corolla. It didn't stay around long.

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
You think it'll be pretty much based off a Chrysler 200?

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
it doesn't look so bad for that kind of car...and everything I've heard about the Giulietta is it a pretty darn good little car, so it might be an OK choice for somebody looking for a FWD daily driver

I remember that very well. It was gone in a shade less than 2 months and the price was way more than what a Toyota Corolla was being sold at that paticular time. For practical reasons, it made more since to buy a Toyota Corolla than it did to buy GM's new version of the Nova. This occurred during Toyota's "I Love what you do for me Toyota" campain when the people started realizing that the imports were a very well made car for alot less on the price of a domestic. I believe in buying American, but the problem is that there hasn't been a fully american made car by the big 3 in nearly 30 years now. The only way to buy a 100% american made vehicle is the aftermarket or restoring an old antique vehicle from the ground up. Kit cars also come into play at this point.

It sounds like they're going with just a few different engine choices and basing it off the new Chrysler 200 which IMO is way over priced and you're not getting your money's worth either. That's also a problem with today's manufacturers.

Re: Dodge Dart Returns....
my initial impression is that it will have the same luck as the chevy cobalt, unless they actually do a good job making it (unlike the cobalt piece of crapplastic junk)
