Sell / Keep?
Hey guys. This is one of the hardest things I have EVER thought about doing.
I'm honestly not sure if I should sell or keep my Ranger. It's got almost 270K. But, it runs perfect. I know it inside and out. I know its little issues, but it's very thirsty. I drive a LOT, I have put 70K on it in 3 years, and...don't even let me think about the gas. I did not want a truck when I was car shopping, but I got such a good deal, no way I could pass it up, and have since fell in love. I get about 17mpg.
I have been looking at a TON of Acura Integra's. I found one, that is perfect. It's going for $4400. 1995, One owner (carfax), no accidents, good body, flawless inside, 149K miles. About 26mpg mixed.
Cons: Looks like tons of tickets though, not as safe (smaller/lower), you don't know the history on any used car, and I love my truck!
Idk. Part of me would NEVER get rid of my truck, but gas milage and lower miles would be nice. (I could afford payments, but I have NO credit / co-signer, and don't wanna pay insurence on two cars)

Re: Sell / Keep?
Keep it man. With the ranger you know how it's been taken care of, you know it runs well, you know where it's been. Buying a new vehicle opens up a lot of unknowns. Gas mileage is a killer though. It's totally up to you, but i'd keep it for a little while longer and long as there is nothing seriously wrong.

Yeah. The main thing is reverse takes a couple seconds to go, like....5? and small crack on the top of the radiator.
Not big things, just IF something big happens, I am out of luck.

Re: Sell / Keep?
I say keep, if anything it can be a fun new project for you to play around with in your free time, or I always like to have a backup in case anything happens. The trucks worth more then you'd ever sell it for and trade in would be nothing.

Re: Sell / Keep?
I say keep it until another deal on a better car comes up that you just cant pass up, if that makes since.

For sure, I would NEVER trade it in, I'd get a $5 gas card probably. Haha.

I totally understand what you're saying. I have been looking for quite a while though. The two cars I have always wanted have been 94+ Integra, or 98+ Beetle. I changed my mind on the beetles though, SO MANY ISSUES.

That's why I still have the ranger, because I am unsure. I don't like making choices till I am 100%

Re: Sell / Keep?
Also Im a firm believer in having 2 vehicles. One that doesnt have a payment that is reliable. The other can be that big monthly payment/car you've always wanted. Cuz then if something ever happens, car breaks, lose your job, etc... You can get rid of that big payment car and you still have something reliable to drive.

Re: Sell / Keep?
Hey Aaron, if you can go ahead and get a second car for mileage purposes but keep the truck. Then get Broad Form insurance on your license.

This is exactly what I WANT to do. I could afford 500-700 down, and about $250 a month for a car payment, that should get me into just about anything I wanted. (Used, 95-2000's car) But, dealerships won't touch me because of my non-credit. I don't have anyone that would co-sign. It really, really sucks.

x2 Plus it looks like a pretty clean truck, and if it runs good and all payed for then no reason to get rid of a spare ... Don't need to get real expensive insurance on it lol... Monthly liability coverage, and if youre not going to use it for a while just dont pay insurance unless you need to use it

My reverse does the same thing! We figure it's just a sticky valve.
