Default Always check your lugnuts.

So, I just got my Cougar back from the shop last Monday, with a good, working trans in it. I get my temp tags so I can take it and emissions test it and drive it to school. I drive the 36 miles to school with only minor hiccups do to a faulty DPFE sensor. No biggie, I'll buy one and throw it on at school. I do that at we get out of school at 8:30.

I'm driving home doing about 70 down the expressway. Car seems fine, then it happens. All of a sudden the car starts shaking ant rumbling. I start to slow down to about 60 and the tires comes off, proceeds to jump the concrete divider and disappear. I was in the right hand lane, I go across the inside lane and end up stopped next to the divider, thankfully I didn't hit it..

I get out of the car to look at what happened and my driver side fender is fubared, the wheel is missing and one stud is busted. So I'm stuck on the side of the road with my jack trying to jack it up so I can put my donut on and limp it home.

I get it home and start ripping it apart. I need a fender, a hub, rotor, and a wheel. The good is that I was planning on doing a complete brake job, replacing the mismatched wheel and the fender, so it all works out in the end.

Cliffs:
Trans shop didn't torque the lug nuts, wheel fell off, did some damage.

I would be at the trans shop first thing in the morning. If they didn't put the lugs on right then it is their fault.

We did that Wednesday. The won't cover the repair work, but they gave us back the money for the transmission and are buying the replacement fender. They felt bad cause I was recommended to go there by a few people. I'd have another trans done there but I'll double check everything afterward.

i'd still be after them for repairs to the car, so what if they gave you money back for the trans, they still fowled up and because of that you've got a lot of damage to the car, what if the car had turned and you hit the center divider?

They gave me $800, the repairs are costing me $400. I was able to keep it off the wall, barely.

As long as the money back covers the repair... I would make damn sure I didn't spend $0.01.... glad no one was hurt though!

+1.

That could have ended up a lot worse.
