Really, my opinion you can't go wrong either way. The Colorado/ Canyon has more room since it is a mid size, but it does cost more. There are also more cab configurations in the GM. I own an Sonoma, and a Ranger, so I like both brands. The Ford however really has all the kinks worked out as it is mostly unchanged since 98. Aftermarket support is good for either.

My 2 them both, see what feels better, hs the options you want, and buy it. Toyota Taco's are made in the US, but not what I'd buy.

Well I just have to say.... You came to a Ranger forum to ask this question.

I have owned both. A Chevy Colorado 3.5L and 3.7L and I currently drive an older Ranger (1994)

I love my Ranger, it has held the test of time nicely. Thats about all I can say about it though, is mechanically it is still (relatively) trouble free for being 17 years old.

Now about the Colorado. I loved this truck as well. I had an extended cab. It is the most spaceous interior of any small/midsize I have ever been in. As for the cylinder head issues, those issues only effected less than 7% of the first 3 years then they switched to the better 3.7 in 2007. The 5cyl runs smoother than a 4 and gets better fuel economy than a competitive 6cyl and makes more power than most 6's. The transmission is the same as whats behind the V8's the GM4L60E 4 speed auto and it is bomb proof. I had my 3.7 on nitrous with 425+ horse power at the crank and never once had a problem with the trans. And my trans was stock.

As much as they are both GREAT trucks, and I am unbias. I would say the Colorado wins. The Ranger is a close second. The one thing the ranger has over the Colorado is a much longer track record and like others stated, the sheet metal on the colorado is not as heavy. If I found myself shopping for a new truck, I would scoop up another 3.7L Colorado.

Go test drive both though!

GMs sit lower and rides soft. The Ranger is taller and rides stiffer.

I would recommend look at the reliability ratings for the year of the truck you are looking at.

The canyon and colorado have had A LOT of issues. The ranger has a few, but not as many by far. Plus the ranger is pretty cheap to fix.

Toyota employs a lot of americans too, look at where the factories are, so I wouldn't be too torn about the foreign vs. domestic debate. Economics aren't that simple anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of rangers were built in mexico.

We have a colarado at work and its a POS. Same mileage as my ranger (about 45000 km) and it feels like its falling apart, really feels cheaply built to me. It shifts gears around the 95-100 km/hr which is deadly in the winter on highways.
I was looking at the colarado when I was buying a truck, and probably would have gotten it if the salespeople didn't ignore me at the dealership. So glad I went with the ranger now.
Of course it all goes down to personal preference.

I looked around for a while and almost bought a GMC or a Chevy but the prices would not move . I went into Ford and they were more than willing to talk to me and deal . This is my second range r, the firsdt one had 70 K when I traded it in , and no issues at all to speak of . This one has 22K on it now and it really nice . I have a couple of issues but nothing new today is bullet proof . electronics , Hardware etc . Its a 4 wheel , and the 2nd mon th we owned it , I took it out on the sand and we had a fantastic time with no issues . The tires were ok as they are stock wranglers , not great for 4 wheeling but good enough for mixed highway / city . Someone also mentioend that frod made money this year which is true and GM is still strughgling but not as bad as a few years ago . I looked at the Toyota trucks as well but I liked the smaller ranger , If i wanted another bigger truck ( traded in a Ram 1500 extended cab ) I would have bought an F150 as they were pricey , but nice trucks .
