Re: skyline gtr
gtr is an entry level exotic, like a Porsche. Most lower level Porsche sure as hell aren't considered supercars, so I don't see this gtr as being one either. Not terribly expensive, solid performance but it isn't a supercar. Supercars and exotics are called that not just for their performance, but for their status; cost and rarity would play a major factor here. For the money though, z06/z07; around a track the vette is faster.

from a tuning perspective i don't think much else is needed to be done. maybe exhaust to delete the cats, but when you have a car that nissan has engineered to be cutting edge, throwing turbos or other power adders at it seems so.... elementary. there are a lot of 'super' cars out there that are built more for looks and status than performance, where as nissan seems to have hit both square on the head with this car.

exactly what i said man!
check this out. shows how capable the r35 actually is in regards to performance

Re: skyline gtr
Top Super car: Bugatti Veyron (Italian name, designed by Germany, Built in France)
But I would consider a GTR in the same company as the Veyron. Both have a 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Which only one other car, the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S is in that group as well. AWD vehicle with launch control capabilities that has a 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds? I'm game, but I just don't have $90k to spend.

The GTR is in the same category with 911 turbos, z06 vettes, and srt vipers, it's a supercar, compared to the challenger, mustang and Camaro, it's a luxury car, with a hint of performance in the luxury, I've seen them, driven the Nismo edition, and I have to say it's my favorite "new" car.
And I will own one

launch control and things of those like how get the power to the ground though. no point in having a high horsepower car if all you can do is spin the tires trying to get off the line, or drift every corner of a track.
don't get me wrong, i have several friends with boosted cars, n/a cars, track cars, and have been down to jim wolf technology with a friend a few times about them tuning his sr20det in his car. i know some, but am by no means an expert. high horsepower is awesome, and nothing beats the sound of a turbo or supercharger. but take Top Gear UK for an example. they have these high end bling wazzoo cars on there all the time, some can put the power down and others can barely keep the headlights pointed forward.

Launch control is really nothing new. Mitsubishi has a 5000rpm limiter under 5mph which they've used for years as a "launch control" The nice thing about this is if you download openecu (on google for free) you can adjust your 2 step rev limit.

With a 2 Liter and a big turbo you need 5000rpm to get any initial boost so the car does not bog down when 4 tires try and move 3100lbs of mass. With a bigger turbo you need even more rpm, heat and pressure on the turbine to get going quickly. A big dodge V8 with 3 times the displacement makes enough torque to get a 4000lb car going at only 3000rpm.
Also, there is no "SKYLINE GTR" in the USA. The SKYLINE GTR refers to the japanese only version. Mostly these are regarded as the R32, 33 and 34. The name "SKYLINE" left the car in 2002 when production stopped. "Nissan Skyline" and "Nissan Skyline GTR" are different cars. The Standard Skyline was a rear wheel drive car with a 2.5L RB25DET. The GTR version had the 2.6 RB26DETT with 4 wheel drive. These GTR's are basically rear wheel drive, until the ATESSA system recognizes slippage, and engages the front wheel drive. This is the exact opposite you see in nearly all cars labeled as "AWD" in the USA today. Today, the front wheels on most of the cars do the driving, and the rear wheels kick in when slippage is detected. When the G35 came out (same platform as the 350Z) this car was badged as "Nissan Skyline" in Japan and "Infinity G35" in the USA (only rear wheel drive, V6, naturally aspirated) The new GTR (2008+) is common across the globe and is only available with V6 Turbo and AWD.
Most of this is not known (in America)
Myself, I prefer real, all the time, 4wd (like the Evolutions & WRX's) where all 4 wheels are always driving the car (with the use of multiple, mechanical differentials) - this way the 4WD is preventing the tires from slipping, instead of reacting to slipping to correct it. (same setup as a 4WD Ranger, or mostly any real truck for that matter)

Revving an engine with no load (in nuetral) can cause damage if overdone. This is why companies have rev limiters installed when in neutral and when in gear.

i've seen a few imported skylines over here from the last generation (g35 ones). there's one student at UC Irvine who has one that i was talking to about it, he said he paid a boat load to have it brought over and registered here instead of getting a US spec car. crazy people with their money. it's always weird seeing a japanese spec car in the US, but gives me hours of reading to do on them lol

R35 is the new GT-R, you're thinking of the R34(00-02), R33(97-99), R32(92-96

That car was a piece of shit, if I could find an r34 in the state for a reasonable price, I'd sell the ranger, coma and vette to buy it. Love those cars.

Re: skyline gtr
some people are sentimental i guess. it'd probably be a small price to pay to have a comfortable piece of home come with you half way around the world.
