Default DNR is full of sh$^

went up to my brothers house to day so we could go hunting. when i got there he was so pissed that some of his chickens where gone and a horse was killed. we started looking around to see what may have done this. at first we where thinking coyote's or fox. but a fox cant take out a horse and you would need a small pack of coyote's to do the carnage that was done. so after 2-3 hours of walking the property and looking for tracks' we came up on some large dog prints. to big for coyote's and say like a dog the size German shepherd. at this point we are thinking a wolf. kinda hard to see a wolf in southern Indian. so on the way back to the barn we called for DNR to come out and take a look. once they got there they told us that it was just a larger coyote and that we have nothing to be worried bout and that there are no wolves in this region. and that we need to keep all animals locked up at night and not to let the kids be outside after dark. well after going with all the BS he gave us we called out a conservation officer and a game warden to give us there input. and holy shit they sit here and tell us that there as a large pack of 50 wolves moved down here over the summer and was dropped off bout 10 miles up river from the house. they told us that if we saw any to just remain calm and not to shoot or trap sense they are tagged. so other word DNR dont know jack ( or they do and just dont want to tell us )

I see Gray Wolves every once and a while. They're SUPER illegal to shoot since they're population is so low here. You probably saw wolf tracks. Coyote tracks look like tiny dogs, Wolf are bigger. there are signs up all over the place about telling the difference.

I heard they were going to try to reintroduce wolves in Indiana. We have a hard enough time keeping the coyotes out of the barn... can't wait for them to move farther north :/
Sorry about the chickens and the horse.

The coyotes here don't bother the horses, but they kill our mouser cats and always knock over our grain bins, lol.
And three is a good number to have. We always turn our horses out in groups of 3's. Keeps any particular 2 from buddying up too tight and getting herd sour. lol.

If they aren't GPS tagged I would shoot them and hide the evidence.
It's open season all year here on wolves, most people will shoot them and leave them in the ditch, unless it happens to be all white or all black - then the hide is worth a lot of money. They wreak havoc on local deer, moose and elk populations and kill just for the hell of it. It's not uncommon to come across an animal carcass barely eaten, if eaten at all. So far this hunting season we've come across 4 dead wolves and took a few shots at one myself.
We were out at about 6 in the morning the other day, had hiked into a clearcut, and then the wolves started howling around us - really creepy feeling. No wonder we haven't seen an effin deer or moose yet this year. They're lucky we couldn't see them or they'd be some dead wolves.

My grandpa has lost two of his best dogs to coyotes. The dogs fought until the end though, because my grandpa found a dead mauled coyote both times.

I don't know what he'd do if he got wolves.

In my opinion, if an animal is getting that close to civilization and is becoming a threat to human safety and property, then it should be fair game, no matter how low the population is. This should be especially true for animals that serve no real important purpose.
