PA state inspection
last weekend I took my truck in for my PA state inspection. It was going alright till it came to all my lights. I did the fog light mod to make it so my fog lights stay on even with the high beams. Apparently this is illegal in PA. Luckily I only bent the tab on the relay so I just bent it back out.
Then they got to my off road lights and it turns out they had to be covered to ensure that I couldn't use them road on. I dont have covers because I think its pointless because I put the lights on there so I could use them whenever I want; I don't use them on main roads and I turn them off if I see someone coming. My mechanic got some prices on covers and they all seemed to be $10 a piece. I couldn't pass without the covers and I really didn't want to blow $40 on something I was never gonna use so I just took them off.
I put aboat an hour in at the shop fixing the fog lights and taking the off road lights off. I had another hour remodding the fog lights and putting my offroad lights back on.
Such a waste of time!
Anyone else ever have problems like that?

Re: PA state inspection
Yes. Had to remove the foglights that came on my truck(they are aftermarket) because they were not wired right, so they didn't shut off with the highs on..
They were crunched/busted anyways but still.. wasted like half hour yanking wires n shit..
Worst part is mechanics basically family..

Re: PA state inspection
The guy who owns the shop is our family friend and he treats us real good. He wasnt the one who had the final say in the inspection though so there wasnt anything he could do. He said he felt bad because he knew I was going to reverse it all anyways once I got home.

Re: PA state inspection
PA inspections SUCK, they are pretty stingy, not as bad as CA, but we are getting there.

Re: PA state inspection
A lot of states are like that. Its very common state law to require all other lights to shut off when the high beams are on. It is also federal regulation for new vehicle manufacturers, hence why its like that from the factory. The off-road lights needing to be covered is also pretty common unfortunately.

Re: PA state inspection
yep when i worked at the dealer service center(im at the body shop now) i learned a lot about PA inspection...i had the same problem with aftermarket fogs i put on my car but one of the techs there wired them up with a relay so they would go off with the high beams

Do you guys think it would work to duct tape all my offroad lights instead of buying covers that would only get used once a year?
