Default GM Onstar F.M.V....

Well guys and gals, I thought I'd wait to see if it was going to be a temorary thing, but I guess it's not. Me and mom walked into Best Buy and paid off my new computer. While we was in there, we decided to look around and we noticed that they now offer GM Onstar for any vehicle. The FMV stands for the following: "For My Vehicle". And geek squad offers to do the installation which I think is pretty kool. Here's a link that proves it:

http://www.onstar.com/web/fmv/vehicl...bility?panel=2

I'm definately impressed at how much GM has changed over the last couple of years since they got rid of a few people whom don't belong anywhere near a vehicle, imo. If you're interested in something like this for your ranger, just type in your zip code and it will give the nearest retailer in your area. I also couldn't believe that the Geek Squad now can do remote starting systems which is impressive. I'm not bad with technology, but I aint the best in the world either. With new stuff coming out each and every year, it's kindly hard to keep up with it most of the time.

Kool. I wasn't sure if it was only temporary thing outside of the factory. I've been wanting to post about this for a long while now but just never got around to it. Plus I had forgotten about it as well. I wonder why Ford doesn't offer their Sync to the public like GM does with their Onstar. Wouldn't that be a really good business idea for Ford right now? They say that Ford's "Sync" is alot better than Gm's Onstar is in many different ways.

Also I don't believe it is marketed by GM. OnStar wanted to get away from GM once their contract was up. So they could offer it to everyone.

I don't know about that now because it's offered in alot of GM's vehicles now. But it could be that they went independent and contracted to GM as well as other retailers. You might be right though. I think if it did occur it probably took place when the CEO Rick Wagoner resigned after they took a bail out. Plus they still have the GM logo on the packaging which would be grounds for GM to press a lawsuit.

I don't really need or want it, but I am curious about it though and alot of other technology. Sometimes it amazes me, and other times it annoys the heck out of me. But I figured it was high time I got out of the dark ages in terms of using technology.

sync doesnt come with a monthly price to it as well. i have a gm vehicle with older on star and the phone stuff is like 300 minutes for 99 bucks or something ridiculous like that. nothing in onstar that i can really use other then the crash response.

The sync is from microsoft and and is a little more intuitive then just a mirror with some wires.

Thanks pal. I'm just really curious about it considering mom has it in her new Chevy Cruze and she paid $9.99 for up until febuary of 2012 (new car discount). Me personally, about all I would really need is the crash response. I can use my cell phone if I'm broke down and can't fix it at my location if I don't have any tools or anything like that with me. I did watch a small documentary on the Ford's Sync system and it looks like there's alot more to it than what most people says it is.
